No, I haven't heard anything about reimbursement. I need to check with professors because Mar 8 is last day before my spring break so seems like a possible midterm day.virgo wrote:Is it because of the low reimbursement?generic_username wrote:@virgo

Does anyone have a good guess when Cornell people are going to send out decisions?

What an awfully silent day ...

Re: Fall 2013 Application Sweat Thread
To those who have sent emails to inquire about the status of their applications, how did you word your emails? I'd like to email some of the programs I've applied to, but I'm not really sure what to say... I just want to know "Am I in, or not?"

Apparently someone has been wait listed from Cornell.

there haven't been acceptations. How can there be wait lists ?

Maybe it's fake or maybe they just sent out offers and people haven't gotten to posting them yet?Nr wrote:That's really weirdvirgo wrote:Apparently someone has been wait listed from Cornell.

Re: Fall 2013 Application Sweat Thread
My best guess is that they have made preliminary decisions, but are waiting for things to clear the graduate school before they formally send offers. Waitlists need not clear the graduate school. Or maybe the Grad Cafe user emailed specifically, after they had made decisions, but before they had sent them and got a quick response.Nr wrote:That's really weirdvirgo wrote:Apparently someone has been wait listed from Cornell.

Of course course these are just guesses...

Re: Fall 2013 Application Sweat Thread
Cornell seems to be doing something really bizarre. I don't think they need to clear things with the graduate school before they send unofficial email offers. I didn't even get funding details from Wisconsin. Also, I wonder why they're not sending out rejections.
Re: Fall 2013 Application Sweat Thread
I also applied to Cornell Pure Math and sent an email to the chair last week, but have not heard back from him.
Re: Fall 2013 Application Sweat Thread
There is also a chance that the wait list is fake.
So, maybe we should wait for more results to be sure that Cornell has made any move at all

I thought that too. There's something about the way that it was worded that seems fishy to me.Nr wrote:There is also a chance that the wait list is fake.

Nice to meet all of you guys. I decided to finally create an account so that I could come here to share in the experience/vent/join in the fun! I've applied to 12 pure math programs, and I haven't heard back from a single one yet! Gah!
I also haven't heard back from Cornell yet. After seeing this thread and gradcafe, I'd bet that very few offers have been sent.

Re: Fall 2013 Application Sweat Thread
On Gradcafe, there's an applicant who revealed rejection from Brown. To the applicant: did you ask Prof Holmer about your status on "15-ppl waitlist"? If so, did Brown finish sending their admissions? I just don't feel like asking them over and over at this moment, so I post this here. Hope you (the applicant or others) don't mind.

I was notified this morning via email of my admission to Cornell for applied math. I doubt that the waitlist result is fake.

Re: Fall 2013 Application Sweat Thread
Heard back from CU Boulder Applied Math today. I applied for their MS program because I thought that it would be a great back up plan and that they were generous with MS funding. Was admitted without financial support though but it doesnt matter as I have a PhD admit under my belt. whew! I think it was wrong of me to apply to MS programs. All in all, 4 PhDs, 5 MS but 2 of the 5 MS programs have scholarships/financial support. One of them is EPFL in Switzerland the other is McGill. I heard that in Canada, MS programs are funded as they are needed for PhD admissions...

Some news about UIC: there is one admit on GC. The only decisions they made is for four people that were nominated for a university fellowship (the GC poster seems to be one of them). They have not made any other decisions but they should complete application review in the next few days.

I haven't heard anything from any of my schools. My top choice is UC Davis, followed by Duke, both of which already have some acceptances on the grad cafe, which is worrying.

=> It's not a surprise that arxndo was admitted given that he's from an Ivy. congrats!
I wonder when I'll hear from Cornell CAM...
Perhaps someone rejected an earlier offer that's why arxndo got an admit?

In his profile, (s)he says that (s)he has applied for Applied math/Operations Research, so it may not be CAM.mindreader wrote:=> It's not a surprise that arxndo was admitted given that he's from an Ivy. congrats!

@arxndo: If you do not plan to go to Cornell(since you have already got in NYU CAOS), please inform them as early as possible.
Re: Fall 2013 Application Sweat Thread
- some guy on Grad Cafe that says he scored a 630 on the Subject Test and was supposedly admitted by phone. Was told that they use the 80% to discourage mass influx of applicants, and they do not use it as a filter at all. I am living proof, but I also have great recs.
For some reason, that just seems really unlikely to me...

my dear friend, i guess it's not nice to pressure arxndo to make his decision regarding cornell ASAP. it's a nice gesture of him to do so but it's unfair to impose it on him. i understand the agony of waiting to hear from Cornell CAM as I am in the same boat as you but arxndo can choose to wait till the deadline if he wants.Gasquet wrote:In his profile, (s)he says that (s)he has applied for Applied math/Operations Research, so it may not be CAM.mindreader wrote:=> It's not a surprise that arxndo was admitted given that he's from an Ivy. congrats!

Re: Fall 2013 Application Sweat Thread
I didn't mean to pressure him into making a decision. I guess I didn't word it very well. What I meant was if he wanted to go to NYU, it would be nice if he informed Cornell that he doesn't intend to go there. A similar hypothetical, had I gotten into Princeton PACM, I would probably have withdrawn my other applications.mindreader wrote:my dear friend, i guess it's not nice to pressure arxndo to make his decision regarding cornell ASAP. it's a nice gesture of him to do so but it's unfair to impose it on him. i understand the agony of waiting to hear from Cornell CAM as I am in the same boat as you but arxndo can choose to wait till the deadline if he wants.Gasquet wrote:@arxndo: If you do not plan to go to Cornell(since you have already got in NYU CAOS), please inform them as early as possible.

I applied to 10 applied math programs and only got a rejection from UW (seattle).DiscreteGuy wrote: I've applied to 12 pure math programs, and I haven't heard back from a single one yet! Gah!
This does not bode well. I have a feeling they send out all the acceptance first and then the rejections much later. I applied last year and my experience is that interviews/acceptance were sent to me very early, while the schools I didn't heard from until late usually ends in rejection.

From Northwestern:
So if you're not going, please please please inform them so that us in the waitlist can have our hope in the world renewed. : )We're having a meeting later this week for our next round of admissions.
We'll have more news by late Friday afternoon, if not before,
Re: Fall 2013 Application Sweat Thread
I'm thinking that maybe Cornell is sending offers by snail mail.

I was wondering what were the odds to getting into the AMSC program if one got the mail for further information?

Re: Fall 2013 Application Sweat Thread
I'm applying for pure math. My background is a little weird. I finished my BA in math with a minor in physics in 3 years and decided to do a BS in computer engineering since it would take 2 more years. I'm interested in some of the algorithmic and computational aspects of low-dimensional topology and knot theory. There seem to be people studying those kinds of things at UC Davis, Duke, and also UPenn, which I applied to too.coral wrote:Are you applying to pure math or applied math?broken_symlink wrote:I haven't heard anything from any of my schools.
