Has anyone heard from Caltech yet?

Dang, that's scary. Rutgers is probably my top choice as well. I'm not quite sure if I'm ready to rip off the band-aid like that.1lovingsister wrote:I would email Rutgers. Just email the graduate secretary if you don't feel comfortable asking the professor specifically. I emailed the graduate secretary about a request they had made on my application and she told me:dactylonomist wrote:This may have been mentioned, but do you guys think there are any negative consequences to emailing a department/admissions to ask about your status? I suppose one could always do it under the veil of another inquiry, and hope that they tell you whether or not a decision has been rendered.
I'm really wanting to check about Rutgers, since they seem to wait until mid-late March to send rejections. I have spoken with a professor there about working on a specific research project, but it seems inappropriate/awkward to contact him directly.
"Our Admissions Committee has finished their review of applications to our PhD program, and has begun to make their initial offers. I regret to inform you that we are unlikely to make you an offer. Your application does have multiple strong points. However, we have a large pool of over 350 applications, with many impressive applications, including yours, and with only a few openings this year, this forces us to turn down many strong applicants. We wish you the best in your future career."
I'm guessing you can probably find out where you stand if you shoot off a quick email.
Are you domestic or international?DiscreteGuy wrote:Dang, that's scary. Rutgers is probably my top choice as well. In other news, literally just received a rejection (via email, never contacted them to ask) from Cornell. Bad way to start considering it was my first result, but nice to finally hear back from somewhere.

I got a short e-mail rejection this morning (Pure Math).GodlessQuadless wrote:Cornell is sending out rejections now, or what?
I know of one person who received an acceptance from them, but it doesn't seem like many people have gotten a response. I'm pretty anxious, too.kunnysan wrote:Has anyone heard from Caltech yet?
Domestic applicant who applied for pure math.virgo wrote:Are you domestic or international?DiscreteGuy wrote:

Did you apply to pure or applied math?meredith wrote:So I heard from WUSTL and apparently I've been wait listed. If you're not planning on accepting PLEASE let them know because I have another offer I have to reply to in a couple of weeks.
How did you hear from them? Was it in response to an email you sent to them, or their official wait-list announcement?meredith wrote:So I heard from WUSTL and apparently I've been wait listed. I applied pure math and I'm pretty sure this was in response to my email a while ago (I think I emailed the same day you did cjh)cjh wrote:How did you hear from them? Same thing here man. So nervous and upset.
I saw your post, so I checked my status. My recommendation sections were marked incomplete before either, but now they all appear as completed. I guess they are matching the files. I will wait for another week and see what happen. Why don't you email them ?DiscreteGuy wrote:My OSU "departmental internal procedure" status, after being marked as incomplete for a while, is now marked as "waived." What's also weird is under the comments section for that section, the comment "dept. is paying" is listed, and my three recommendations and textbook form are still listed as incomplete. Does anyone know what this means?

Well, if we can trust gc then Caltech should send out lots of rejections these days (last year was 2/24)kunnysan wrote:Mine is pure. Any idea about when are they going to send out decisions?JonMLTR wrote:which department ?kunnysan wrote:Has anyone heard from Caltech yet?
