I didn't email any profs this year because last year I emailed a prof asking if I am suitable to apply and he said yes, and that it is a great place to study my subject. Then I got rejected within a week of the deadline.
Things aren't looking good (again) this cycle. I am preparing for the next already lol. I was wondering how many of you emailed professors and generally what did you say/ask?

I emailed a professor at ASU (the only place I've been accepted, you should note). However, I only got in touch with him because one of my professors works with him. I don't know how much just emailing someone out of the blue would do though (in math at least). I know it's effectively required in most sciences.
Anyway, we talked about the research he does and the school in general. We also talked about the application process and pure vs applied math.

i didnt email any profs and got 1 admit already. to be honest, i am quite shy to do so but for me I think that contacting profs would be a nuisance from the perspective of the professor. think about all the emails they receive as well as the duties they have to carry out. not sure about this but ive had this view for so long...of course, if you're an "insider" i.e. connected to the prof, then i dont see anything wrong with it.

I didn't email any professors and my statements of purpose didn't name specific faculty at all. I've been accepted to Courant at NYU.

I emailed 3 profs and only 1 got back to me. I got rejected from 1 of those schools and haven't heard back from the other 2.
