Applied Math vs. Pure Math

Post by korkus20 » Sat May 11, 2013 1:57 pm

Hi,
I am studying for a Bsc. in EE and Math.
I want to apply for a Phd in Math, but can't decide between Pure and Applied.
Anyone knows if I can change department upon starting the Phd already?
Any other advise would be great!

Thanks in advance,
Ofir.

You could choose a school where applied math and pure math are in the same department. This is the case for many schools; for instance Georgia Tech may be a good choice.

Hey dear,
in my opinion u should go for statistics as u'll not face problem in finding a job and also this field is in gr8 demand nwadz..
As far as ur changin of topic is concerned during phd..u cn change bt this process is v time consuming and also u'll need to strt search for supervisor frm scrach..also,time to complete ur phd wud b extended!Keep all these things in mind and den tk decision :)
Take care!
