How much time is generally enough to prepare?

Post by Legendre » Wed Jun 03, 2009 1:14 am

How much time does it take to fully prepare for the GRE Subject Test in Mathematics? I am graduating soon from a math degree and so have taken the typical Analysis, Topology, Abstract Algebra etc courses.

Of course, a good estimate of time required depends on too many factors. What I am looking for is a very rough and general estimate of the amount of preparation time.

Thank you!

I read that post before posting mine. Very good post indeed. Thanks for the link.

How much time in general (very general...) do one need to prepare for GRE Mathematics? 1 month?

"eof" says he studied for 3 weeks and got a whooping 97%. (http://www.mathematicsgre.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=205)

2 months? 3 months? I am actually thinking of going for the Oct test. June to Sept = 4 months. Is that too little? Too much? Just enough?

Well, it might have to be enough time depending on when you plan to apply.
I suppose it depends on how much of your undergraduate mathematics you can recall and how dense your schedule is, but four months seems reasonable.
Best of luck!
