Question from GR9768 question (1)

Post by ajf » Mon Aug 31, 2009 1:51 am

I'm just starting my review of math for the GRE subject test. Anyway, the first question on GR9768 shows

F(x) = integrate log(t) from e to x

I think the answer is

xlog(x) - x

However, the answer key shows that it is (c) which is

log(x)

Can someone point out the correct answer and why? Thanks in advance for the help.

Read the question carefully. It was asking about the derivative - F'(x), not F(x).

Well, this is embarrassing. One lesson that I can learn from this is to read the questions carefully. Thank you for the help.

Hey, at the very least it made for something interesting to think about over lunch (for me anyway). 8)
