Did you apply for pure or applied? GC records indicate that pure admits go out starting with the beginning of feb and then applied come out about a week later. Last six years applied admits have gone out on the 8th, 9th, or 10th. I'm waiting for applied, and so I'm expecting a slight chance of news today the 7th, but more likely on monday the 10th since this year 8th and 9th are weekend.

Had an interview. I'm terrible at interviews(not that I've had much experience). I froze like a Windows 8 update. The Professor must have thought that I'm a mumbling moron who doesn't know any mathematics. Questions were really simple. I'd answer them now without thinking twice. What a waste.

Thanks! It looks like pure math admits have been trickling out over the past week, instead of coming all out at once, so they might not all be out. Good luck to you!

Got my first nonrejection...a waitlist to UT-Austin. Anyone know the chances of getting off a waitlist at a bigger school like Texas?

There's an admit on GC but it looks suspicious. Have you checked my.wisc.edu?

Yeah, I have, and mine still says pending. Hopefully we hear from them next week, but if they are already admitting people, then I guess not getting any official news just yet might be a bad sign.

I have no update from the Wisconsin website either, but the admit does look suspicious. It doesn't make sense that a full day after posting a website acceptance there are no other acceptances posted. I guess it's either fake or for whatever reason just a small portion of acceptances are up on the website. Don't think it's worth panicking over yet.

I also hate how so many people on The Grad Cafe don't post their GPA and GRE scores with their decisions. What are they afraid of?

If it makes you feel better I've only heard from two schools. Both decisions were rejections.

I haven't heard from UCLA either. Hopefully this is good, as it looks like there are a some rejections posted on grad school cafe last week.

But it has been quite depressing that the 3 schools I've heard back from so far are all rejects. The thought of not getting in a single school worries me and it seems that might be a real possibility now.

Sounds like we're in similar positions. I've only had back from 4 and its been 3 rejections and a waitlist. Hopefully UCLA has us on one!

I'd say you are on a waitlist. I got rejected, so it seems you're not in that first batch of rejections, at least. But this not hearing back business is starting to get to me, as well. GATech, NYU and Penn State already have international admits, but I've received no word at all. Since there are no rejections, however, it seems that their waitlist at this point might just be everyone, and the worst scenario of finding out you've been rejected only in April might very well transpire, ugh.

Having been in this same position last year for UCLA, I'd assume you are on a waitlist.

I've read somewhere that UCLA sends offers in waves with decreasing financial packages. There didn't seem to be enough acceptances on grad cafe to look like all the offers have been sent.

It looks like the waves are based on American/International, with the first wave of admittances and rejections being American students. So I think it's reasonably likely the few if any international students have received offers at this point.

Also, have rejections been sent out from Berkeley? It looks like acceptances have been given, and there's one rejection posted. Looking from previous years, it seems like they wait until late March to send out rejections. Can it be safely inferred that silence at this point means rejection?

Last year, the dgs(Prof. Balmer) said this(mid Feb):
If you have not heard back, you are on our waiting list
First week of March, asking when I could expect a decision:
End of March. But chances of us going into the waiting list is very low. Accept other offers, if you have one.
From the waitlisted people I knew(from this site), no one got accepted. My rejection came in the first week of April, though some got theirs by last week of March.

Is that a general statement or specific to UCLA?

Does anyone know anything about the Yale waitlist (the sample size on GC is too small to learn much)?

Specific to UCLA, and specific to last year. Note that it's possible that someone else did get in from the wait-list who did not post here or on GC.

I know nothing about Yale, sorry.

Dear pals,
My status on Kent State Uni says that they have made their decision and sent me their decision letter (through mail). I have not yet received any emails, so I emailed the DGS twice, but he has not yet answered to my emails. I am very nervous because I think the letter was a rejection. If they wanted to accept me they firs let me know via email. Am I right?

In spite of having what I thought was a very bad interview, received an admit from Illinois Inst. of Tech. No email yet, but application status on the site was updated to admitted with the following note:
You will receive more information regarding your admission in the upcoming weeks. Information regarding funding will be in your official admission letter.
So, I have heard back from two schools, both admissions, and both have not yet told me about funding. :|

it is nearly impossible that both schools admit you without funding,
plus it's still the first roll of admission, my bet is that they'll decide about funding after the 2nd roll

so if i were you i wouldn't worry too much

I was rejected from the PhD, but unofficially offered admission with a TAship and full funding to the masters, after which they will reassess my application. I was surprised even by this, as I applied on a whim, given my LAC background, a meh MGRE score, and minimal research experience. This is a really tough choice for me, as it is a top school in my field of interest, and I am pretty confident in my abilities to enter the PhD program afterwards, but I have two other PhD offers from other schools and certain personal considerations to keep in mind...

I haven't heard back from any schools, but most of my schools haven't had an results on grad cafe either. However, riverside, Nebraska, and nc state all have one acceptance either on this site or on gc. If I haven't heard back, and they've already sent out their acceptances, does this mean I'm rejected? Are there more people who heard back from these schools?

Just received an email from UC Santa Barbara, checked decision on website. Accepted! Added this on grad cafe. I haven't seen any other admits. No word on funding...would it be considered rude to email the department and ask about funding? Or should I just wait it out for a couple of weeks and see if they send anything else?

Not necessarily. A lot of schools have waitlists and admit people off of it as people turn down their first wave offers. You don't have a rejection until you receive a rejection email!

Do schools normally send emails notifying students that they are on a waitlist? Do schools ever send second wave offers?
