Anyone heard from Michigan AIM? There is a Applied Math admit on GC. Don't know whether that is AIM or not.

I think Caltech sent out all their admits yesterday (including to me); plus they invited all their prospectives out to Cali for an interview day a few weeks ago.Gasquet wrote:Caltech CMS admit on GC. My dream school.![]()

May I know where did you get this information from?johngeller wrote: A guy from China seemed to get an admission from AIM last week.
Congrats! I envy your admits.troopiedoop wrote:I think Caltech sent out all their admits yesterday (including to me); plus they invited all their prospectives out to Cali for an interview day a few weeks ago.
That one Caltech post on GC vastly underrepresents the percentage of admits they made.

Btw, anyone heard from Maryland-AMSC program?
Pink Floyd wrote:Dear pals,
My status on Kent State Uni says that they have made their decision and sent me their decision letter (through mail). I have not yet received any emails, so I emailed the DGS twice, but he has not yet answered to my emails. I am very nervous because I think the letter was a rejection. If they wanted to accept me they firs let me know via email. Am I right?
Yeah, I got an offer on Tuesday (2/11) from NC State Applied Math. I wouldn't be surprised if more people are going to be accepted though. I'm going to visit and then will hopefully have a chance to visit another one of the schools I have an offer from so I can free up my spot in one of those programs in March for someone else to take.Gasquet wrote:Anyone heard anything from NC State Applied Math?
I didn't get one either. Don't like the sound of this one bit.ghjk wrote:@l0019 and Gasquet: have you guys received anything from ASU regards to the funding? The graduate director told me that the initial TA offers have been sent out, but I didn't get one:(
I heard that at least as of 2/7 the adcom hasn't even met. I think they've got a new DGS so the process will prolly be slow this year.ghjk wrote:May I know where did you get this information from?johngeller wrote: A guy from China seemed to get an admission from AIM last week.

Are you talking about the AMSC or the AIM program?dasgut wrote: I heard that at least as of 2/7 the adcom hasn't even met. I think they've got a new DGS so the process will prolly be slow this year.

I really don't know yet; we'll see how the visit days go. Caltech is a heavy favorite.Gasquet wrote: Congrats! I envy your admits.
Caltech over Northwestern?
I also applied UT CSEM and have heard nothing. I don't think they've made any decisions yet.caxton wrote:I applied to UT Austin's Computational Science Engineering and Math (CSEM) PhD for this fall. I see that one person at GC stated "Interview via email" as at Feb 7th, but there are no other decisions listed there for this program this fall. My own status still reads "in review".
Is it usually a good sign if you don't get any response for a while (does it indicate a wait-list?), please does anyone know about this?![]()
Also does anyone know anyone else who has already received a UT Austin decision for CSEM this Fall?
Sweating badly on this one because it is probably my final option right now.
Is this the Applied Mathematics Department?troopiedoop wrote:I think Caltech sent out all their admits yesterday (including to me); plus they invited all their prospectives out to Cali for an interview day a few weeks ago.Gasquet wrote:Caltech CMS admit on GC. My dream school.![]()

Thanks troopiedoop. I was going on the Feb 7 "Interview by email" message I saw on GC. But maybe that person's a serious outlier or just a troll.troopiedoop wrote: I also applied UT CSEM and have heard nothing. I don't think they've made any decisions yet.
I applied to NYU, and as far as I know, they don't. If you do find one be sure to share.Ryker wrote:Has anyone else here applied to NYU? There's an admit on The Grad Cafe saying (s)he "found out online". But NYU doesn't have an online status checker... Right?

That's a good thing, no?cti112 wrote:i see lots of rejections today from grad cafe

I feel like schools are sitting on their hands this year. Maybe I'm just antsy, but it seemed like most of 'em get their first round out by mid/end of Feb and half of my schools haven't done a thing.Gasquet wrote:Still not heard anything from 8(out of 10) schools. Doesn't help that this forum is quite quiet this year.

Thanks for letting me know. If anyone else has heard from UIUC I'd appreciate it if you post. It's probably my top choice outside of UCLA, which I was already rejected from, so I'm really hoping I still have a shot.ihatepencils wrote:No clue -- but I know someone personally who has already got into UIUC...not sure if they already sent out a full first round of admissions or not.
Haha, it seems like we're in the same situation everywhere. But yeah, I'm bummed about that one really hard, as well. Judging from recent years' postings on The Grad Cafe, it namely seems as if there aren't really any admits in later months.ihatepencils wrote:I was really hoping for Minnesota but it seems like they've sent out a bit of admits already
I am one of the guys who post the rej from purdue on GCGasquet wrote:Purdue rejects on GC. I've not heard back. Anyone else in the same situation with Purdue?
Indeed! I'm really hoping that more will come because of the relatively low number of admits on grad cafe so far. How many more schools are you still waiting back from? I still have heard nothing from 6 schools!Ryker wrote:Haha, it seems like we're in the same situation everywhere. But yeah, I'm bummed about that one really hard, as well. I'm still waiting to hear back from 14 schools (I heard back from 4), and 8 of those have already made offers to people. Oh, and looking at the profiles thread, I also see we've got the same number of admission offers and rejections at this pointihatepencils wrote:Indeed! Ah well its good that you have an admit! Congrats! That definitely alleviates a lot of stress. Is your admit to a place where you wouldn't mind going?Ryker wrote:I'm still waiting to hear back from 14 schools (I heard back from 4), and 8 of those have already made offers to people. In a way. I'd love to live there, but in terms of interest match it was in the bottom half of my list, since they don't have a lot of faculty doing research I want to do, and even those they do have are mostly on the applied side of it. Plus, the guaranteed TAship leaves something to be desired, as I'm not sure it's enough for a living there considering my current expenses. So it's a mixed bag of emotions concerning that one, to be honest. How about you, are you happy with Utah?ihatepencils wrote:Ah well its good that you have an admit! Congrats! What are you afraid of? You're anonymous either way.Ryker wrote:I'll probably post my profile in the future, but I kind of want to get a couple more admissions before I do that.
It's not anonymity that concerns me, I just don't want to bother with it until I have something really good to report.safetybelts wrote:What are you afraid of? I am pretty happy with Utah. I'm mostly interested in going into either Representation Theory or Algebraic Geometry and they have great faculty in both of those areas. Salt Lake City also seems like a beautiful place to live so that helps too!Ryker wrote:In a way. I'm also most likely going to Utah! And SLC is an amazing place. I had an REU there one summer and it never really got below 70 degrees outside. It's in a valley, so it never has bad weather (it probably rained once for 20 minutes). Also, the hiking paths are spectacular. I've got a few more reaches to hear back from and unless the offers I've already gotten offer better funding, it looks like I'm going to Utah. I'll also be focusing on Algebraic Geometry.ihatepencils wrote: I am pretty happy with Utah. Awesome! I've been wasting lots of time looking up things about salt lake city and it seems like a pretty awesome place to live. I'm also waiting for a few more reaches but there seems to be a high probability that I end up at Utah.rmhism wrote:I'm also most likely going to Utah! And SLC is an amazing place. Also, are you visiting at the end of March?
