Setting up your own interviews
So, I've applied to three programs in the Chicago area and haven't heard back from them yet (to no one's surprise.) I will be in that area for work this coming weekend; is it presumptuous to call and see if I can set up a time to speak with a few math departments?

I think it sounds like a good idea. I don't see how it would hurt you -- if they're not itnerested, they can just say no.

For anyone who is wondering, both schools I set this up with seemed very open and welcoming. I would recommend that anyone on the fence give it a try.
I would also recommend that anyone who ends up answering their own question posts the answer here; I have seen several in the past which I would like answers to!
