So where is the sweat thread?
Re: So where is the sweat thread?
I believe the unofficial email I got from UWashington was sent to everyone on the shortlist for acceptance. There may yet be hope for waitlists.
Re: So where is the sweat thread?
I saw rutgers sending out rejections today on grad cafe. Is it unofficial by emailing the DGS or is it official by e-mail?
Re: So where is the sweat thread?
I received a rejection from Rutgers yesterday. It was by an official e-mail. Bummer...zasdzcc wrote:I saw rutgers sending out rejections today on grad cafe. Is it unofficial by emailing the DGS or is it official by e-mail?
Re: So where is the sweat thread?
So, I saw a rejection from Berkeley posted today. If anyone else was rejected, did your status on the webpage change? I haven't heard anything yet and the limbo is killing me.
Re: So where is the sweat thread?
I saw a Rice CAAM acceptance on Gradcafe but I am wondering if it's for real.
Is anyone else applying to Rice CAAM? Or do you know someone who has received any response?

Re: So where is the sweat thread?
He probably sent an email to ask (someone asked precisely that on gradcafe, but it was reported as spam and deleted). Judging from past years records on gradcafe, UCB doesn't send massive rejection emails nor updates the online status to "rejected" before March, but people occasionally ask and get the negative answer.MathCat wrote:So, I saw a rejection from Berkeley posted today. Okay thanks. Same here.mathorphysics wrote: I'm applying to Rice CAAM. No word yet. :/
Re: So where is the sweat thread?
I think Rice CAAM already sent out their first-round offers but there is still hope for second-round. Don't "sweat" yet and postpone contacting the department.

Wow. Thanks mate.thickskin wrote:I think Rice CAAM already sent out their first-round offers but there is still hope for second-round. Don't "sweat" yet and postpone contacting the department.

Hey, I was the post on Gradcafe. All I got was a notification of acceptance, no offer on funding yet.xor wrote:I saw a Rice CAAM acceptance on Gradcafe but I am wondering if it's for real.

Re: So where is the sweat thread?
I was pretty surprised by that haha. I guess it makes me feel better to know someone else got rejected before me?MathCat wrote:So, I saw a rejection from Berkeley posted today. Bleh whatever, already full throttle on getting a job, already given up hope of getting in anywhere completely. I get the feeling I got screwed over by a letter writer.
Re: So where is the sweat thread?
I'm elated! I just got my first acceptance.
Notre Dame! And with funding too.

Congrats!! The first acceptance is 20% "I get to go to grad school!" and 80% "I won't be homeless this fall!". Best of luck with the rest of your applications!xor wrote:I'm elated! With my subpar (compared to most applicants I see here) profile, I just got my first acceptance.

*Still waiting.... fingers crossed*
Re: So where is the sweat thread?
Has anyone heard anything from UT-Austin recently? There were a couple admits on GC around two weeks ago, but I haven't seen anything since.
Re: So where is the sweat thread?
Haven't heard anything, still waiting. I emailed them about a week ago asking about the status of my application, no response.visgraf wrote:Has anyone heard anything from UT-Austin recently? There were a couple admits on GC around two weeks ago, but I haven't seen anything since.
Re: So where is the sweat thread?
I just wanna hear from Berkeley... at least Stanford crushed my hopes quickly. Berkeley is just stringing me along.
Re: So where is the sweat thread?
I am also waiting from Austin, no word from there so far.
I saw some posts on GC about University of Michigan today also. I believe it is Ann Arbor. Has anyone heard from them, about the pure math Phd program? I check this wolverine access thing regularly, but nothing there yet.

Have you e-mailed Berkeley?MathCat wrote:I just wanna hear from Berkeley... at least Stanford crushed my hopes quickly. Berkeley is just stringing me along.
Re: So where is the sweat thread?
Well, I e-mailed them a couple of weeks ago (special circumstances), so I don't want to nag them again so soon. They told me they'd have most offers out by the end of February or the middle of March. I'll probably inquire again at the end of the month.visgraf wrote:Have you e-mailed Berkeley?MathCat wrote:I just wanna hear from Berkeley... at least Stanford crushed my hopes quickly. Re: So where is the sweat thread?
Right now I'm just hoping I get any acceptance at all. It isn't looking too well :/ .

Re: So where is the sweat thread?
I think someone asked this before, but I don't recall seeing a reply: What does it mean if you're not in a school's first round of admissions/rejections, but you haven't been explicitly waitlisted? Does it mean you're further up or down on the waitlist?

Re: So where is the sweat thread?
That depends on the school. Not all of them will waitlist you explicitly, and even if they do they might do so at a later date. As always, if you can't handle the nail-biting wait then ask the department.

Re: So where is the sweat thread?
Looks like Columbia APAM is sending out acceptances now. Shiiiiiit. (The Wire reference).
Re: So where is the sweat thread?
UMinn sent out acceptances today.
Re: So where is the sweat thread?
I noticed that. Did you get one?sara12 wrote:UMinn sent out acceptances today.
Re: So where is the sweat thread?
Got into math PhD program at Madison (presumably, a first-round offer?), but a little befuddled by the Minnesota acceptances without me getting one hehe. Rank is only approximate I guess.

Yes! I'm really happy. And surprised! Minnesota has a great program and I love the location.Austin wrote:I noticed that. Did you get one?sara12 wrote:UMinn sent out acceptances today.

Re: So where is the sweat thread?
More decisions from UCLA out this morning.
Re: So where is the sweat thread?
Still I haven't had an acceptance or rejection from UCLA yet. It seems sensible to conclude I'm on a waitlist then. Still have my fingers crossed for that one!
Also, does anybody know if Oxford interviews every DPhil candidate or whether they interview only those who have passed a first round of admissions?

Re: So where is the sweat thread?
Their prospectus says applicants should expect to be interviewed as a part of their application. I believe they interview just everyone who applied.
Same situation with UCLA.

Re: So where is the sweat thread?
Seems like it took Oxford no time to decide; I was accepted to their DPhil program in the PDE-CDT, but without an offer of financial support (as is common for non-UK citizens). I'm very excited nonetheless, as this is my first acceptance, and I may be able to acquire the sufficient funding through certain fellowships. Still waiting on the other US universities though!
Re: So where is the sweat thread?
After looking at the pattern from UCLA last year at thegradcafe, it seems that they had two large rounds of rejections for International students (and this year, there has only been one so far). I try not to read into this too much but I'm guessing this means chances are still pretty slim.

UIUC rejections on gradcafe. Ugh. Still haven't heard anything from them.

Re: So where is the sweat thread?
If the application deadline for UIUC was a while ago (like a month or two) I would just email the graduate coordinator at UIUC to ask about your status. I sent a simple email asking about the status of my application for a school with a December application deadline and found out almost immediately. I doubt I would've heard from them for a while otherwise and now I don't have to wonder anymore.sara12 wrote:UIUC rejections on gradcafe. Ugh. Still haven't heard anything from them.
Re: So where is the sweat thread?
Has anyone inquired about their status at Berkeley recently? As I mentioned before, I inquired a few weeks ago because I had an early deadline. I want to ask again, but don't want to be too annoying...

Has any one heard from Brown university?

Re: So where is the sweat thread?
Did anybody else here apply to Irvine? My current admission status is "waiting for supplemental documents" (GRE scores) although GRE says they have been sent in November. Unfortunately nobody answers when I email Irvine for clarification.
Anybody else with this problem?

Re: So where is the sweat thread?
What does it mean when you get an email from a grad director asking if you're still interested and if you would consider their school if accepted? I got an email from a school asking if I've already eliminated them from my top choices or if given a TA offer, whether I would give their school a chance. Does that mean they plan on accepting me if I consider them or does it mean they're narrowing down their pool still?
