For applying to math PhD programs, does your general GPA matter or only your grades in math classes?

Everything matters, but they will care most about your math courses. For instance, they will look at your cumulative GPA, but also your graduating GPA (or just last 2 years if not yet graduated), but they will also look at your transcript to see how the grades were distributed. If your cumulative GPA is below the grad school's cut off (often 3.0), that is a problem.
