Convert 10.0 GPA to 4.0 GPA

Some schools are asking to convert my UG GPA (which is on a 10.00 scale) to 4.00 scale. My UG school's grading system is :

Ex=10, A=9, B=8, C=7, D=6, P=5, F=0

Any suggestion on how to do the conversion? (My overall UG GPA is 8.64/10.00)

Rework your gpa using them instead. Multiply the credits by the grade points, sum them and then divide by the total number of credits.

Not sure that will work since there are more letter grades for his system than our system. I suggest this. With Ex, A, B, C, D, P, F, there 6 gaps between the letters. I would divide the 0 to 4 scale by 6 to have gaps of 0.66667. Thus, we have the following weights to apply to his grades. This will convert the 10 point system to a 4 point based value:

4.00000 Ex
3.33333 A
2.66667 B
2.00000 C
1.33333 D
0.66667 P
0.00000 F
