Re: University of Chicago 2016 Admits
Let the anxiety begin. Hopefully the other December 15 schools start letting us know soon. Fingers crossed.
Re: University of Chicago 2016 Admits
Alright, now I can officially justify all the sweat! One admission from UCLA on gradcafe as well.
Re: University of Chicago 2016 Admits
I was scared for a second : How could the results be out when the deadline was the 31st of December? But of course this post refers to the pure math department and not the statistics department.
Re: University of Chicago 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
Three more UCLA admits on gradcafe
Re: University of Chicago 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
There is a general patten of people's profile ADMITTED to UCLA this year:) All of them have top/near-top scores on the GRE Math Subject + a 3.9+ Undergrad GPA + verbal sections > 152 (not sure if this actually matters). Same case for a guy admitted to U.Chicago.
Re: University of Chicago 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
Just out of my curiosity, how did you know this info?ghjk wrote:There is a general patten of people's profile ADMITTED to UCLA this year:) All of them have top/near-top scores on the GRE Math Subject + a 3.9+ Undergrad GPA + verbal sections > 152 (not sure if this actually matters). [Amended] Sorry, I did not exactly answer your question. There is a status column with the letters "A", "I", etc for "American" and "international".

Re: University of Chicago 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
All of the UCLA admissions seem to be Americans so I'm assuming I shouldn't be expecting anything yet as an International applicant either way. Still, isn't it pretty early compared to other years to send out admission results now?
Re: University of Chicago 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
A poster here on MathematicsGRE.com also reported an early offer from Ohio State: http://www.mathematicsgre.com/viewtopic ... 055#p14055
Re: University of Chicago 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
Clearly, a lower bar for domestic applicants is set at OSU, especially in GRE Math:) OSU seems to care more about the regular GRE. The GRE Math score is too low for international, let alone other factors... Congrats to you, airrows!!Ivanjam wrote:A poster here on MathematicsGRE.com also reported an early offer from Ohio State: http://www.mathematicsgre.com/viewtopic ... 055#p14055
Re: University of Chicago 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
Some profiles didn't list whether they are American or not, but I remember one of them is International. U.Chicago's international admit this year has the same stats, and (I guess) some publications under their belts.Mezox wrote:All of the UCLA admissions seem to be Americans so I'm assuming I shouldn't be expecting anything yet as an International applicant either way. Thank you! I was new to grad cafe recentlyIvanjam wrote:Hover the mouse over the red diamonds under the "Decision & Date" column on the GradCafe: http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=math*anwins wrote:Just out of my curiosity, how did you know this info?
I am afraid that U.Chicago has sent out its first-round offers, according to the amount of offers posted at the grad cafe and offers I heard from here and other countries.
Re: University of Chicago 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
The UCLA-admits I find on thegradcafe all state that they are American. Maybe I'm using the wrong filter or maybe you have a different source?ghjk wrote: Some profiles didn't list whether they are American or not, but I remember one of them is International.
Re: University of Chicago 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
That seems surprising to me that Ohio State has already sent an offer. Congrats to that person though
Re: University of Chicago 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
There is another admit from Ohio State on Grad Cafe, this one is different since it is today. Anybody knows what's going on?
Re: University of Chicago 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
Their admission deadline is December 15, so this is not strange. In fact, the Ohio State website says: "The graduate recruitment committee then reviews about 110 files in greater depth split over two rounds, one in mid January and another about a month later. This review typically leads to the admission of..." https://math.osu.edu/graduate/applyleviethai wrote:There is another admit from Ohio State on Grad Cafe, this one is different since it is today. Re: Fall 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
I actually received an OSU offer today as well
Re: Fall 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
Are you domestic? Can you tell me how does your status look like on the Application Status page?
Re: Fall 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
Congrats to you!! Mind posting your stats and other credentials on the 2016 Application Thread, so that we can have some references for future applicants?felani wrote:I actually received an OSU offer today as well

Re: Fall 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
I posted the result of U Chicago as an international student. One of my friend who is studying in U.S., but not an American, was also admitted, so I guess that the first round is over. I also applied for UCLA, but no answer yet.
Re: Fall 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
I think recalling that last year, UCLA sent out admissions for American and International students at seperate times so as an international student, that's what I'm hoping is happening here as well.sartrism wrote:I posted the result of U Chicago as an international student. I'm an international applicant to Ohio State University's pure math PhD programme. Do you think GRE Q: 170 V: 155 AWA: 3.5, MGRE: 880 is competitive enough for an international applicant to Ohio? I've always been worried that my verbal score is bit low for most colleges.ghjk wrote:Clearly, a lower bar for domestic applicants is set at OSU, especially in GRE Math:) OSU seems to care more about the regular GRE. Via email. They ask me if I am still interested in Yale. I guess they know other schools have released some admission results.Fw1812 wrote:Congrats lobsterroll!lobsterroll wrote:I have an offer from Yale math department, pending approval from the graduate school.

It seems like Stanford is starting to release admits. The admit on gradcafe has some interesting stats.

Re: Fall 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
Haha, I was thinking the same thing. But there are always some surprise admits. The person probably had some awesome recs or publications.
Re: Fall 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
Looks like the Stanford admit on gradcafe was taken down
Re: Fall 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
I don't understand why people post admits on GradCafe without posting their stats. The information is practically useless to anyone, without stats.
Re: Fall 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
I did so, just because it may be useful for others who applied for the same school to judge their status. I personally do not believe that numerical stats will be useful neither, especially for top schools whose applicants might be almost perfect in every aspect. The more important things, in my opinion, are recs and pubs but I cannot write details on gradcafe.Ivanjam wrote:I don't understand why people post admits on GradCafe without posting their stats. Can you post your profiles on another thread? Did you just get into Stanford? If that's the case, congrats!sartrism wrote:I did so, just because it may be useful for others who applied for the same school to judge their status. Looks like Stanford admitted somebody. Is anybody else checking their e-mail a bit too frequently?

Looks like some Columbia admits went up today as well. Super anxious now haha
Re: Fall 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
I haven't seen any rejections yet on gradcafe. Does that mean none of these schools have sent out rejections yet, or are people just not choosing to post their rejections on gradcafe?

Re: Fall 2016 Admits (Pure Math)
Rejections are probably coming out in early to mid February. Some of these acceptances will decline their position and people next in line will get their offers instead, so its going to still be a while before we hear anything.
Re: Fall 2016 Application Sweat Thread
Renamed thread. Post info on GradCafe and e-mail stalkings, raw admission data, rumors, opinions, comments, etc

What time of the day do people usually get responses?
Re: Fall 2016 Application Sweat Thread
Couple of MIT and Harvard admits posted on GradCafe.

Re: Fall 2016 Application Sweat Thread
I've seen that some schools (Harvard, UCLA, Chicago) have given responses. Do they send decisions in a single batch? Should I be almost sure that I am not admitted if I receive nothing after this time?Ivanjam wrote:Couple of MIT and Harvard admits posted on GradCafe.
Re: Fall 2016 Application Sweat Thread
MIT sent the full list for admitted students, delivering the details about the open house.Elle89 wrote:I've seen that some schools (Harvard, UCLA, Chicago) have given responses. Re: Fall 2016 Application Sweat Thread
I just received an offer from Yale, and GradCafe has been showing that people received offers at least as early as Jan 13. So it seems they do not send in batches.Elle89 wrote:I've seen that some schools (Harvard, UCLA, Chicago) have given responses. Do they send decisions in a single batch? Also I am told that as people decline their offers the schools send out more offers, so you shouldn't be sure that you are not admitted yet.
