Confusion about tuition remission (out of state student)

I have been offered a tuition remission for the state school I will be attending this fall. However, as an out of state student, my tuition fees are higher than someone from in state. Does tuition remission (up to 9 credits) mean my out of state tuition is reduced to in state? Or would it be reduced to 0? If the former, I don't think I could possibly afford the extra fees, even with the funding.

Has someone run into this kind of issue?

You need to ask your department. I'm international, and my offer letter (from a state school) explicitly stated that all the tuition, including the non-residential supplemental tuition fee, would be covered. For Americans, I believe it is usually understood that you will establish residency in the new state by your second year, so often the out of state part is only covered for the first year (and the in-state part is covered for all years). But again, you need to ask the department to know for sure. My guess is that it is all covered, though.

Asked and it was clarified that it would be full tuition remission, not just out of state. Thanks! Now I can relax again.
