I think you should ask this in academia.stackexchange.com. More people there know how to appropriately reply the email. In my opinion, you should just send an email to them or call them directly asap to explain the situation.GT wrote:I got accepted to a university for Phd program. About two days after receiving the acceptance letter, I sent an email that said I appreciated that and I would make my decision as soon as possible. But they misunderstood that I accepted offer.
I am still wating for results from other universities.... What shoud I do?

I don't think so. According to thegradcafe, they send out offers sporadically but relatively more in early Feb. Also, there are very few posters even going back to 2014xiaozs1995 wrote:Do NYU come in one time or not?hans_k_ wrote:I can feel the NYU wave coming. Take me with you

I'll give you 1, 4, and 5, but 3 is a plus for some people (point being, it's subjective) and 2 is not true in comparison to other large cities in the U.S. The murder rate is higher than that of many cities in Europe and Canada, but as a New Yorker I find "dangerous" an amusing descriptorverysweetjuices wrote:What appeals to you about living in NYC?hans_k_ wrote:I can feel the NYU wave coming. Has anyone else who applied to Berkeley not heard back from them yet? I've checked the website and all it says is "submitted" there. Thanks!

This was the case for me until I received an email notification that a decision was posted yesterday afternoon (rejected). Perhaps they're just slow about sending out rejections?tpbb wrote:Has anyone else who applied to Berkeley not heard back from them yet? I've checked the website and all it says is "submitted" there. So I've heard someone got waitlisted at MIT. I'm taking this as a sign that anyone who hasn't gotten anything back yet probably shouldn't be hopeful for an acceptance letter? I don't want to jump to rash conclusions though. (pure math btw)

The first rejection has come in, and honestly, I feel okay. I'm just glad to have some news at all at this point.
Re: Fall 2017 Sweat Thread
This is how I felt after getting my rejection from Wisconsin! It's nice to have some closure and not be wondering about everything. I'll be more concerned if/when I get my fourteenth rejectiontopologyandtacos wrote:The first rejection has come in, and honestly, I feel okay. I'm just glad to have some news at all at this point.

According to gradcafe, Washington sent out some rejections today, as well as unofficial admits (asking too candidates if they're still interested). I still haven't heard back...

Similar situation here... I applied for Washington (pure math), and they didn't reject or ask if I am still interested...spablo wrote:This is how I felt after getting my rejection from Wisconsin! I got rejected from UW Madison as well. Is that really that great a school? I saw some people with 165/165 and 800s get rejected from there.spablo wrote:This is how I felt after getting my rejection from Wisconsin! I received an email saying that I am one of the few people on the short wait list who might get an offer if some spots open up. Anyone who is not planning to go there, please let them know when you can. People like us are in the LIMBO here.

First round is already out by informal email (because of the official visit), so spots will most likely open as people start declining in the next few weeks/months.hans_k_ wrote:I don't think so. compared to other good schools.
Re: Fall 2017 Sweat Thread
Madison has a very strong math department. Ranked about the same as UT Austin--not a top 10, but top 20, and they have an excellent algebra group. They received over 400 applicants this year, so they're kind of forced to reject a lot of deserving candidates.verysweetjuices wrote: I got rejected from UW Madison as well. I haven't heard back from McGill officially either, but a prof e-mailed me in late January and the math department did again saying there was strong interest not too long ago. The admittances will come. Is McGill your top choice?hans_k_ wrote:Congrats! I applied to McGill MSc, but I still haven't heard back from them. Re: Fall 2017 Sweat Thread
I already have a bachelors degree in pure mathematics. I am currently studying for my masters. If I was just accepted to a university for PhD, can I still attend if I don't graduate my masters program because I don't finish my thesis?
Re: Fall 2017 Sweat Thread
Did you put in your application that you are expecting to graduate your masters? If so, then you have to graduate (at least for American Universities)--they will ask for a diploma and official transcript after you accept their offer (it was so in many of my friends' cases). It would be better to defer their offer for 1 year if they allow you to do so, and you don't expect to graduate this year.420math wrote:I already have a bachelors degree in pure mathematics. Depends on the uni.420math wrote:I already have a bachelors degree in pure mathematics. I am currently studying for my masters. If I was just accepted to a university for PhD, can I still attend if I don't graduate my masters program because I don't finish my thesis?
If you're applying to a Canadian uni for the PhD, no. You must finish the MSc.
If you're applying to an American uni for the PhD, yes.

Can we also talk about how brutal MIT is for rejecting everyone on Valentine's Day?
They should have at least sent flowers or something...
