Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
Oh btw, I forgot to tell you guys that the admission letter of UChicago said that there is a waitlist, so they are probably waiting to see first reactions before making more offers and finalizing the waitlist.
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
This post would be understandable were it posted in March, but it's the middle of January and a whopping total of 5 schools have posted some results. Don't jump the gun and be patient.djysyed wrote:I'm starting to get a little worried because a lot of people have started hearing back from universities and I only heard back from 1 out of the 16 I applied to.
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
I definitely agree, getting worried now will only slow down my coursework. In other news, UT Austin, UIUC started sending out acceptances.

Are universities releasing decisions unusually early this year?

I saw one on grad cafe. None on this site. Super anxious now cause that's my top choice!djysyed wrote:I definitely agree, getting worried now will only slow down my coursework. In other news, UT Austin, UIUC started sending out acceptances.

Public Uni's seem to make a greater distinction between domestic and international.FreddieBiddleBooty wrote:I saw one on grad cafe. None on this site. What are the parameters with respect to which the public universities may differentiate between domestic and intl. students?Singularity wrote:Public Uni's seem to make a greater distinction between domestic and international.FreddieBiddleBooty wrote:I saw one on grad cafe. I do not have any specific ideas, when I said that I meant for many public uni's domestic and international have different protals. It is not just a question about your citizenships, but rather when they ask which program you apply to, there are two different choices: math PhD domestic and math PhD international.
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
UIUC is the school I thought I had the best chance of being admitted to so I would definitely be in a bad position if I don't get admitted.FreddieBiddleBooty wrote: I saw one on grad cafe. None on this site. Super anxious now cause that's my top choice!

Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
Just got a call from Penn to invite me to visit on 2/8. It is not an official offer but the caller said they would be happy to admit all the people they have invited. She asked me to provide two professors that I want to meet the most and I was unprepared for that... Kinda awkward.
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
Where did you see that UT Austin has started sending out acceptances?djysyed wrote:I definitely agree, getting worried now will only slow down my coursework. In other news, UT Austin, UIUC started sending out acceptances.
It seems that Stanford is sending out acceptances as well.

Are you guys seriously gonna update the thread every time someone posts on gradcafe

Misread, not even pure math PhD program either.egoyaq wrote:

A second person was admitted to Stanford. From what I know, Stanford doesn't admit more than 40 people and almost all of these people are among the great UChicago, MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Caltech trade.

I think it is just what happens when only a few places are giving out offer unusually early. People will get tired and stop updating when too many start to come out.lambert wrote:Are you guys seriously gonna update the thread every time someone posts on gradcafe

Although upon overthinking the joke I am now unsure what the best way to make "more-ness" categorical could be.
EDIT: Bonus bad categorical humour

Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
So Stanford and Princeton are sending acceptances. Probably other top schools will be sending also today. Do you know which schools tend to send at least part of the rejections on the same day with acceptances? And second question: Do schools really start with Americans and will consider international students afterwards?(my guess is based on the data from grafcafe)

My guess is that international students are not up yet or they have not got enough time to post the offer on gradcafe.mishania1996 wrote:So Stanford and Princeton are sending acceptances. Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
I’ve heard that at least one international student has got Princeton, although not yet posted at gradcafe

I know of internationals with UChicago/Yale offers so I'm a bit doubtful of that. (Although I guess Yale sent out all responses so it shouldn't count.)mishania1996 wrote:And second question: Do schools really start with Americans and will consider international students afterwards?(my guess is based on the data from grafcafe)
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
There's a red diamond next to some of the decisions. Clicking on it shows you the stats of that person. Whoever got into Princeton nailed everything (960 MGRE, 170/170/6 GRE, 3.9 GPA).
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
After I heard of someone who got perfect scores three times in IMO, I think this is not impossible.djysyed wrote:There's a red diamond next to some of the decisions. Clicking on it shows you the stats of that person. Whoever got into Princeton nailed everything (960 MGRE, 170/170/6 GRE, 3.9 GPA).

I believe Princeton sent rejections on the same day previous years.mishania1996 wrote:So Stanford and Princeton are sending acceptances. Probably other top schools will be sending also today. And about the second question, it depends on the school, but I think most of them don't divide them into international/domestic. The reason why you can see domestic students first on gradcafe is most likely timezones. Even Ohio State, which is known for having very different criteria for int/dom, hasn't been following the trend and accepted both int/dom students in the first batch this year.
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
On gradcafe, when people say they were accepted ~by phone~, does this mean that the department is calling them to offer admission? or are they calling the department? because I am going to be out of the country for a couple months and won't be able to receive calls from the states...
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
I am wondering what time during the day do they send the decision email?
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
I would guess throughout the day. Based on grad cafe, a lot of schools have started sending out acceptances.
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
Does anyone know that whether UCLA has sent out any offer for I and U? It seems all the results on gradcafe are from A.
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
I'm impressed that UC Davis has already sent out acceptances. If I'm not mistaken its deadline was reached just two week ago.
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
Did you got an interview from them? If yes, would you mind sharing what will be asked in the interview? I just received an email inform me to be interviewed next Thu or Fri. Thx!djysyed wrote:If you're applying to UIUC, they'll have an informal interview with you there.Singularity wrote:Maybe going to JMM will help pass the time of waiting.

You're not mistaken! I submitted my application on January 5th, and I was pleasantly surprised to hear back from them so soonKakatekoi wrote:I'm impressed that UC Davis has already sent out acceptances. If I'm not mistaken its deadline was reached just two week ago.

Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
Has anyone gotten any interviews for Master's programs in Canadian universities? I'm particularly interested in UBC and UofT but any information would be great.
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
Do Canadian universities typically interview prospective international, MS students? I haven't applied to UBC and UofT, but I have applied to Waterloo, UWO and McGill.a6f9 wrote:Has anyone gotten any interviews for Master's programs in Canadian universities? Yesterday I've got unofficial letter from my potential advisor and he said that I will receive offer from University of Rochester soon.
However, I am still waiting results from other universities too

However, I am still waiting results from other universities too
1. Did they send you an email or did you email the dept. to ask about the status of your application?
2. Did you specifically mention the names of a few professors in your SOP with whom you'd like to work? I guess Rochester directly sends the apps. to the professors with whom the applicant would like to work with. I did mention 2 names on this app, but i didn't go in any detail as such, as my interests aren't well defined as of yet. This leaves me worried. :/

Getting random promo emails from schools I've applied to and am waiting for decisions from is unnecessarily stressful (looking at you, UGA!)

I've been getting emails from Berkeley's Data Science program. Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
Almost each post on gradcafe is written by Americans. Is there a trend of starting from local students, is the forum mostly populated by Americans, or is it just that the international quotas are too small?
At the first place I'm concerned for the data regarding Ucla, Princeton and Stanford, because these are the only schools taking place in my list and in the gradcafe at the same time.
