Oh btw, I forgot to tell you guys that the admission letter of UChicago said that there is a waitlist, so they are probably waiting to see first reactions before making more offers and finalizing the waitlist.

This post would be understandable were it posted in March, but it's the middle of January and a whopping total of 5 schools have posted some results. Don't jump the gun and be patient.

I definitely agree, getting worried now will only slow down my coursework. In other news, UT Austin, UIUC started sending out acceptances.

I saw one on grad cafe. None on this site. Super anxious now cause that's my top choice!

Public Uni's seem to make a greater distinction between domestic and international.

What are the parameters with respect to which the public universities may differentiate between domestic and intl. students?

I do not have any specific ideas, when I said that I meant for many public uni's domestic and international have different protals. It is not just a question about your citizenships, but rather when they ask which program you apply to, there are two different choices: math PhD domestic and math PhD international.

UIUC is the school I thought I had the best chance of being admitted to so I would definitely be in a bad position if I don't get admitted.

Just got a call from Penn to invite me to visit on 2/8. It is not an official offer but the caller said they would be happy to admit all the people they have invited. She asked me to provide two professors that I want to meet the most and I was unprepared for that... Kinda awkward.

Where did you see that UT Austin has started sending out acceptances?

It seems that Stanford is sending out acceptances as well.

Misread, not even pure math PhD program either.

A second person was admitted to Stanford. From what I know, Stanford doesn't admit more than 40 people and almost all of these people are among the great UChicago, MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Caltech trade.

I think it is just what happens when only a few places are giving out offer unusually early. People will get tired and stop updating when too many start to come out.

Well, there aren't any obvious morphisms referred to in the statement...

Although upon overthinking the joke I am now unsure what the best way to make "more-ness" categorical could be.

EDIT: Bonus bad categorical humour

So Stanford and Princeton are sending acceptances. Probably other top schools will be sending also today. Do you know which schools tend to send at least part of the rejections on the same day with acceptances? And second question: Do schools really start with Americans and will consider international students afterwards?(my guess is based on the data from grafcafe)

My guess is that international students are not up yet or they have not got enough time to post the offer on gradcafe.

I know of internationals with UChicago/Yale offers so I'm a bit doubtful of that. (Although I guess Yale sent out all responses so it shouldn't count.)

There's a red diamond next to some of the decisions. Clicking on it shows you the stats of that person. Whoever got into Princeton nailed everything (960 MGRE, 170/170/6 GRE, 3.9 GPA).

I believe Princeton sent rejections on the same day previous years.

And about the second question, it depends on the school, but I think most of them don't divide them into international/domestic. The reason why you can see domestic students first on gradcafe is most likely timezones. Even Ohio State, which is known for having very different criteria for int/dom, hasn't been following the trend and accepted both int/dom students in the first batch this year.

On gradcafe, when people say they were accepted ~by phone~, does this mean that the department is calling them to offer admission? or are they calling the department? because I am going to be out of the country for a couple months and won't be able to receive calls from the states...

Do Canadian universities typically interview prospective international, MS students? I haven't applied to UBC and UofT, but I have applied to Waterloo, UWO and McGill.

Hey.

1. Did they send you an email or did you email the dept. to ask about the status of your application?

2. Did you specifically mention the names of a few professors in your SOP with whom you'd like to work? I guess Rochester directly sends the apps. to the professors with whom the applicant would like to work with. I did mention 2 names on this app, but i didn't go in any detail as such, as my interests aren't well defined as of yet. This leaves me worried. :/

1. No, my potential advisor have mailed me and said that soon I will get official offer.
2. I have put the name of professor with whom I want to colloborate in Personal Statement. I dont know does rochester sends applicant files to professors or not. Do not worry you will get the results soon.

Almost each post on gradcafe is written by Americans. Is there a trend of starting from local students, is the forum mostly populated by Americans, or is it just that the international quotas are too small?

At the first place I'm concerned for the data regarding Ucla, Princeton and Stanford, because these are the only schools taking place in my list and in the gradcafe at the same time.
