Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
If a math department emails you and tells you that you're a finalist for a fellowship, does this usually mean acceptance? This is killing me! And the grad coordinator is not emailing back

Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
Where are people seeing that Cornell rejected them? It does not say online and I checked my junk folder.
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
I don't think schools typically consider rejected applicants for fellowships. Maybe though.FreddieBiddleBooty wrote:If a math department emails you and tells you that you're a finalist for a fellowship, does this usually mean acceptance? This is killing me! I don't think they're rejecting everyone at once.

Right. I am wondering though if this implies acceptance. Of course, I could just be considered "not rejected", yet receive this email. Surely no one knows except the admissions committee... damn.EGA wrote:I don't think schools typically consider rejected applicants for fellowships. First offer of the season from Cornell with full funding! Absolutely thrilled. I didn't think I had a chance there.

It's after 5PM at Rutgers now. Are you sure that Rutgers is sending out letters today?rfz wrote:News for applicants which applied to Rutgers: Rutgers is going to send out letter in Monday.
I've also applied to Rutgers. But there is information that Rutgers pays serious attention to MGRE.
I guess I'll be rejected.

Anyone gotten into Carnegie Mellon yet? They are my number one choice but I'm feeling worried.
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
I also got rejected. Honestly, I didn't think it would affect me because I was 99% certain that I wouldn't be admitted. But I was still a little disappointed when I read the decision letter.ACleverMan wrote:Got rejected by Harvard. Sad start.

Wait are you saying their first round is almost over or are you saying they are rejecting people soon? Did you contact admissions to find out?

Same here. 2 rejections in a row from Harvard and Columbia.misterry wrote:I also got rejected. Honestly, I didn't think it would affect me because I was 99% certain that I wouldn't be admitted. I've gotten one offer so far, so I'm lucky in that regard. Does anyone know when UNC Greensboro or Georgia State typically posts decisions? There's not a lot of info about them on gradcafe.
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
Guys, check your spam folders! Cornell sent me their offer today and I found it there.

Has anyone not yet heard back from Washington (Seattle)? On gradcafe I have seen people get accepted and rejected, but I haven't heard back yet. I am just wondering if I should contact them.

Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
Based on gradcafe, Washington (Seattle) has only sent out offers and rejections for the applied math PhD program. So if you are applying to that program, you can probably send them an email.sarahhcarp wrote:Has anyone not yet heard back from Washington (Seattle)? Should we contact the dept and ask about status? We haven't gotten rejections so that's still a good sign

Do you know if Bonn has sent all acceptances and rejections for Master's? Do you know anybody still not having an answer or being on a waitlist? I'm asking this question because Bonn accepted me and wants me to reply till the end of a February. Why so early?

Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
You should request an extension on the deadline for Bonn, and explain to them that you're still waiting to hear from several schools in the U.S. I did this when Waterloo's deadline was a few weeks before my other schools, and they were very understanding.mishania1996 wrote:Do you know if Bonn has sent all acceptances and rejections for Master's? I saw that there was an acceptance for Carnagie Mellon on grad cafe. Anyone know what point they are at as far as first round/second round?
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
Oh, that record on gradcafe was mine. Got interviewed last night and an letter by Stella Andreoletti just now. From past stats, it seems that majority of admission was on mid of Feb.ACleverMan wrote:I saw that there was an acceptance for Carnagie Mellon on grad cafe. Has anyone heard from U of Colorado Boulder yet? I see an applied math submission on grad cafe.
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
I am an international applicant so I am not sure whether to do that. I heard that emailing to the committee before a decision made would, statistically speaking, receive a passive reply rather than a positive one if you don’t. So I had no courage to border them.yon3da wrote: Same![]()

Should we email them? I really want to know my status. Extremely nervous.

Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
I would say no. I've done this to a couple of schools already and they are not at liberty to discuss the status of your app. They are either still sorting apps and finalizing, or they are just avoiding answering the (probably) many emails they receive about the same matter.Jayden wrote:I am an international applicant so I am not sure whether to do that. Bonn is informing accepted students for Master's degree about the scholarship. If you received a scholarship but decided to go somewhere else, please let them know as soon as possible. I'm in the "waitlist" for this scholarship, and I really wanna go there.

If anyone's curious, I recently contacted UC Irvine about their decisions, and a professor said preliminary decisions are being made this week followed shortly by initial offers.

Is this with respect to UGA? I also was notified I was a finalist for a fellowship, even though I haven't been accepted, and I've noticed they already sent out some acceptances.FreddieBiddleBooty wrote:If a math department emails you and tells you that you're a finalist for a fellowship, does this usually mean acceptance? Anything from Penn State?
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
They had some problems with the admission process. They were supposed to send out offers yesterday but they found out that the number of domestic students are insufficient. So they will start again from the shortlist and I guess it will be at least 2 weeks from nowpyfgcr wrote:Anything from Penn State?

Admitted to Caltech Math! This is my first acceptance in a top 10 ranked program, so I'm so relieved and ecstatic right now.
