Thank you and good luck to you. I've only heard back from two universities so far. I got accepted into Texas Tech also. I think they've only sent out 6 or 7 offers yet and hope you get admission there.

Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
I emailed a professor at Minnesota. He said:
If you have been offered a spot and don't wish to attend, please do decline it. This is my top choice! Thanks.Yes, we have made an initial round of offers, and, unfortunately, you were not on that list (despite a good word from me). Your file is not rejected, so far as I know, but after this first round we will have to wait for some time (probably at least two months) before being able to make further offers.

Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
What for? The professor flat out said you have been rejected, so I don't think the "further offers" part pertains to you. Not to mention "at least two months" means past the April 15th deadline to respond to most programs ... make sure you don't miss out on a spot you actually got and want to attend.Junaid456 wrote:I emailed a professor at Minnesota. This has been said before, but if you are not intending to accept an offer at Northwestern, please please decline it ASAP!
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
He said your file is NOT rejected. I have edited the post accordingly. You're right about the second thing. I have, however, asked him about when the second round of offers would go out. As per grad cafe, there has been a wait list in the past which is sometimes processed in early April. My other 2 offers are from middle tier schools. This is my top choice school, and I'm just hoping I can somehow get in. Hence, the post.lambert wrote:What for? I just got rejected from Northwestern. Heads up for those who are still waiting. They might be sending offers and rejections today.

If you were accepted into Michigan and have better options, please turn it down as soon as you are able -- particularly if you applied with an intention of doing algebraic geometry. Thanks!

Were you waitlisted? I checked thegradcafe today and realized UMich was sending out rejections. However, I haven't heard anything from them and I was wondering if they inform about being waitlisted.evariste wrote:If you were accepted into Michigan and have better options, please turn it down as soon as you are able -- particularly if you applied with an intention of doing algebraic geometry. Not officially, but was told I will end up on the official waitlist (which should go out in the near future) after emailing with the grad director.Kakatekoi wrote:Were you waitlisted? Just got a rejection from UIC for "Spring of 2018". I think thats a typo, and they meant Fall 2018

Is anyone still waiting to hear back from Utah? They've accepted, wait listed and rejected applicants, and I still haven't heard back.
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
when I applied to Utah 2 years ago, they told me if I don't hear anything by the end of February then it's likely a rejection. @Junaid: Why are you interested in Utah ? You want to do analysis, right ?
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
Same. I'll be meeting with the DGS on Friday to go over how to improve my application.Junaid456 wrote:Same here.Andreas wrote:Just got a rejection from UIC for "Spring of 2018". I think thats a typo, and they meant Fall 2018

Got accepted by ASU but they didn't mention anything about funding. Should I wait and see if they offer me something later on their own or should I email them and ask them directly?
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
Ask, I remember that they have the habit of sending out admissions without funding.junglemath wrote:Got accepted by ASU but they didn't mention anything about funding. Should I wait and see if they offer me something later on their own or should I email them and ask them directly?
Re: Fall 2018 Sweat Thread
I am an international, and I also have an unfunded offer. I was informed around Jan. 20 about it. I inquired about getting funded, and I was informed they may have additional TAships in the comings months and they'll inform me later around late March. Funding seems to be an issue at this school. I guess more so for internationals. There may be some funding regulations, as it is a public school.junglemath wrote:Got accepted by ASU but they didn't mention anything about funding. Just got admitted to Vanderbilt at the interview 26K/year and it seems to be a good place to study von-neumann algebra.

One of the big factors for me is the quality of life and surrounding area. I’m not interested in academia so I can be a bit more free with choosing a less renown math program over something as lame as the city culture and weatherChanning wrote:Thank you. Why regret? I was told specifically not to mention my desire to pursue industry jobs so I think it's pretty badass that you said you didn't want to go into academia.Rise wrote: One of the big factors for me is the quality of life and surrounding area. Has anyone else neither been rejected nor waitlisted at Rutgers yet? I wonder what that could mean.

Should I assume that I’m on the waitlist of Cornell since there’re already plenty rejections out? Did they tell you that you’re on the waitlist? In case anyone applied to Waterloo, I got the following response:
Sucks to be neither explicitly rejected or accepted in the first from my top choice schools. Didn't have a stellar profile by any means, though.Thank you for your interest in our Graduate Program. Currently our Admissions committee has reviewed your application and has put your application on Hold. I am sorry that I cannot confirm a final decision from them at this time. Hopefully we will have an answer for you within the next few weeks.
