Has anyone else heard of anyone getting their test re-scored?

I got my test score back yesterday and it is NOT what I expected to get. It's not a little bit lower- it's a whole lot lower. I felt level headed all throughout the test and had no problems with the time constraint. I knew I didn't get an outstanding score and I know I tend to make silly mistakes but not like this. I got in the 85th percentile in the major fields test- I expected my gre score to be lower but it's no where near 85.

Has anyone had their tests re-scored before? I intend to do this but I don't see anything online where someone had their subject test re-scored.

I don't think rescoring is possible - a computer scored it and it's very unlikely that it scored it wrongly, also it's unlikely that your sheet still exists in readable form as there's a bunch of them that they probably tossed out somewhere in the world.

If you have a look around the forum you'll see that most people scored lower than they expected (some way lower). The gre subject test *is* tricky and should not be treated lightly for this reason. Alternatively you may have skipped a multiple choice or something which led to your answer sheet choices being shifted (I've also heard of this happening).

I know it sucks, but the only thing you can do is retake the test in April (or roll with your current score and apply in this cycle).

I have the exactly same feeling. I thought I did quite good in the October test as I finished all questions one hour ahead of time and reviewed those questions I was not sure about several times.I expected to get around 95% but it turns out to be 90%... What can I say?

Re-scoring is possible. Costs $50. And yes, other people got lower than expected, but I've yet to see someone with a score as low as mine.

:? When I say I got lower then expected it wasn't by 5%. It was more like 50%.

I think he means that even if you get it scored again it is unlikely to change, since the test is just multiple choices.

I've heard of a couple different people who accidentally skipped a line on the bubble sheet, or filled in two circles on the same question for the bubble sheet, so every answer thereafter was off by 1. This is a possibility (that unfortunately will not be fixed by a regrade). I've never heard of anyone who paid for a regrade and received a higher score afterwards, although I suppose it's possible.

I thought about this in advance and so I tried to double check that things aligned as I was taking the test. I still could have messed this up but I doubt it.

It just bothers me that I can't find anything on people questioning their subject test scores. You can actually find a lot of cases for the SAT and the ACT where scores were messed up. I know it's not probable that I'll get a higher score but I think I'll have it re-scored at least for the peace of mind that comes with it.

In 2015, I had my MGRE test rescored. I got such a low score and it surprised me so much that I thought something must have been wrong, so I paid the $50 to get the hand-scoring. But nothing changed. I still think to this day that I made a mistake in bubbling or something, but I can't change that! If you have the money and it's no big deal, do it. If the money is a big deal, maybe think about it. What was your score, if you don't mind me asking? Mine in 2015 was 610 (39%). If you'd prefer to PM me that's fine.

50%!? That is terrible! Sure you can pay 50 bucks and get it re-scored but it seems that it would take two weeks to be finished whereas most deadlines are December 15 so you might not have enough time though.

50% is not terrible. This means the test taker did better than half of all test takers.

Sorry I didn't make my point clear here. I mean 50% lower than expected is terrible.

The earliest deadline that I have is Jan 15. It seems somewhat necessary for me, though, because no one would accept me with this score. I was confident that I would at least get above the 50th percentile so I was having it automatically sent to 4 schools. With this score those 4 are out and I'd have to find schools that don't require this test (and I had every intention of applying to places at least somewhat nearby).
