I was accepted into the Applied Math Ph.D. last year (12.31 lol) but still haven't heard anything about funding decisions yet

Looks like UCSD has released more decisions. Anyone know if they are done?

I got my acceptance only an hour ago, so they are probably still sending them!

Congrats! Fingers crossed.
I thought UCSD would be a safety school for me even though it is top 20. I don't mean to sound cocky -- I was just stupid. In hindsight, I should have applied to more realistic programs. I overestimated how much weight my essay and research experience would carry -- ignored the letters.
It sucks because I went to a top 5 program for undergrad, but full professors would never teach upper-level undergraduate courses there. So, my letters are from very junior people. Some students in my classes started taking pure math courses earlier in their college years and were able to take graduate courses with well-known professors. Most students did not get to do so. Something to keep in mind if you ever know someone who is interested in postgraduate study and applying to the top US colleges.

I was accepted 01.08 into Pure Math PhD. I'll send them an email in a couple of weeks if I don't hear anything till then

I also heard nothing. Maybe they are contacting only those shortlisted.

I have not heard anything since last Wednesday. It has been a horrible week and I have midterms next week. Today when I visited my doctor, she suggested that I should check if I have anxiety.

Anyone has good advice about how to relax?

Distractions are probably your best bet, worrying won't make the decisions come in any sooner.

Just keep doing math. It's the best distraction.

If you didn't get an explicit rejection from a school, then don't count yourself out just yet. When I applied last year I got an acceptance letter by the AMS Group I school I'm currently attending on like April 10, less than 5 days before the deadline to accept an offer.

I submitted my fall transcripts a week after I sent in my transcript because I know they don't start looking until now.

Have you taken a nature hike or gotten a chinese massage at the mall? Works a lot

I received an email from Brown University saying I was 'selected for admission' and that I've been recommended to the Graduate School to be made an offer and that a formal letter will be sent next week. So, I guess this counts?

That's a great news, congratulations! Is it pure or applied? I heard nothing from Brown, though I don't believe that my application is strong enough for them.

Thanks! I'm in Applied Maths. You never know if you're strong enough until you get rejected. Don't panic. I haven't heard back from MIT or Harvard and apparently they've started admitting already.

So is it safe to assume if schools started giving out acceptances and you didn't hear anything that you didn't make the first round? Is that how it works?

Actually they will send offer to the best students and reject the worst ones (sorry for that word) in the same time. So it’s like cutting trees from both treetop and butt. It's a very bad way cause you don't know in the final it’s an offer or even not a waitinglist.

How accurate is this guy normally for these predictions?

He was right about Oregon, UCDavis and UCSD the day before yesterday, so I suppose not entirely inaccurate. Not sure about the 4 unis he talked about yesterday

UIUC, Princton (rejections), Michigan State and maybe other places... I'm not entirely sure if he's just basing this off of last year lol

I think this is true for most schools, but some schools only send out a certain number of offers and don't have a waitlist. Brown pure math is one of these departments (I have spoken to faculty there). For these schools they send out all of their rejections and acceptances simultaneously.

Anyone having unofficial acceptances from Berkeley? Seems like a person in the grad cafe got it. I'm not sure if it is fake or not though.

It's most likely real. I was not the poster, but also received an offer within the last hour. Don't lose heart, since they're unofficial they might take a while to come out!

Details to follow "in the next few days".
And to another previous poster, I'm afraid I don't know anything about admission in waves.

Had to google to see what that meant ... uh, I'll go with "no"? I just found it odd that one would refer to someone as 'Professor Scholze" for simply having Scholze in the username. Kids these days make memes and fb pages after Grothendieck, Mochizuki, Scholze and others without having the faintest clue about their research work. Bah *shakes cane*

I’m starting to get nervous, since most of the schools I applied to have already admitted people. Does anyone know how common it is for schools to accept in waves?
