I noticed a few rejections from Rochester in mid-February but I have not seen any acceptances. Has anybody received an offer or a waitlist notice from Rochester?

I noticed someone on gradcafe mention they were on a waitlist for IU Bloomington, is anyone else in the same boat? I'm not sure where I stand since the only email I've gotten from them since I submitted my application just said that they were still reviewing applications and will try to give me an answer as soon as possible (this was last week). Does this mean I'm on the waitlist too?

Yes, did anyone get an acceptance from Rochester? Or waitlist/rejection? They keep telling me they have no update to my application status.

Been getting emails to respond to offers. Still waiting on a few waitlists. Should I email asking about my status on the w/l? Also, how can I phrase it without sounding desperate? Thanks hahaha

If you are sitting on multiple acceptances, decide which one of those you would go to if you don't get into any of the places you're waitlisted. Then you can at least decline the other offers and let somebody on that waitlist in.

If you have other offers then you are in a good position to e-mail about waitlists. You want to be tactful, but let them know that you are still very interested in the school but that with the deadline approaching you have to make a decision and have to consider the offers you actually have and can't just hold out forever. If you get an offer too late you won't be able to accept it because you won't have time to consider. Realistically you do have to start making a decision and you can only decide between the offers you actually have. If they are truly interested in you, they will have to placate you to some extent because they know the later they offer you the worse their chances are of getting you. People act like all the power is in the hands of the programs but that's not true. It's a two-way street and if you let them know you're interested but need to know soon, of course being very attuned to your language so as not to offend, you can potentially make good things happen, or at least get clarity on your status. They need you just as much as you need them, so don't sit around and conform to whatever calendar they give you. Your timeline matters and they understand that even if their motivations are selfish.

I enquired with Michigan about how I didn't get a decision on the March 20th and was told MA decisions haven't been sent out yet. (It's frustratingly late not to have sent out.)

I tried emailing the graduate admission officer for Minnesota as the graduate coordinator ( i.e.. the staff, not the faculty member) hadn't responded to any email so far. I have yet to actually hear anything from Minnesota and things are starting to look scary.

For UMN, maybe you can try to e-mail Richard McGehee <mcgehee@umn.edu>. When I e-mailed to ask about my status, he replied to me with a rejection letter...... Good luck.

Since Bonny Flemming was not responding to any emails, I tried emailing Richard McGehee. It's almost a week but I haven't got a response yet.

Is it normal not to have heard from so many institutions? I also sent out emails to Wisconsin and Colorado Boulder for application status but haven't received a response yet either.

One other thing I want to know from people with previous experience with the graduate admission process is whether I need to be alert on the weekends in the run up to April 15th.

Since April 15th is on a Monday this year, will the graduate office be open on the Saturday/Sunday (i.e. 13th and 14th) to respond to offers/ rejections?

I would definitely expect them to be open. That being said, I'm sure since the 15th is a Monday a lot of the acceptances / wait-list closings will happen during the week before.

You should never expect anyone to be working outside of their normally scheduled hours. If they're working, great, but there's no reason to expect it. This deadline is far more important to us, the applicants, than to anyone else.

Congrats! If you're interested in Algebraic Geometry then I'll likely be seeing you quite a bit.

Also been ghosted by Minnesota

For those did not hear anything from Minnesota, yesterday Prof. McGehee answered my email. Of course a rejection =(. I also got official rejection today.
Purdue and Penn are not answering my questions. Duke told me they will try their best to inform me before the deadline.

Congrats to you, too! I hope to focus on logic, but coming out of an Applied MS program (that I did not enjoy) there is no telling what may catch my interest.

They said they will try to inform us before the deadline, but they are not 100% sure to be able to do that. Seems like they are still waiting for response from several offers.
Similarly, Purdue said they will possibly accept off the waiting list even after April 15, so they may not be able to tell us their decision before 15th. What do you think about changing mind after April 15 if you have already accepted another offer?

Anyone else find it unprofessional when schools don't give you a decision by April 15th? You would think the least they can do after we have spent our time, effort, and money on applying is to let us know either way before we have to respond to other offers.

Not really. Some schools won’t be able to make a decision about your application until 4/15 or even later sometimes. Quite a few people won’t turn their other offers until the very last minute and so the 3-4 days leading up to 4/15 can be super crazy for the school.

I had a buddy who essentially made the same complaint and said that he should just be rejected at this point and then a day later he received an offer (on 4/11) despite the school telling him a few weeks prior that his chances were incredibly low. I also know of somebody who received an offer on 4/20 last year (we all assumed that he was rejected need less to say).

How exactly does it work if I accept an offer from a school and then another school offers me an acceptance after April 15th? Is there any reason I can't do that, other than it just being really rude if I didn't have a good reason? And how long should I wait on April 15th before I just send in my acceptance letter? I don't want to be delaying to the last minute but I really want to get into UIC :|

I don't know exactly. It may depend on the school. I know that my current institution is very understanding of those who receive offers elsewhere after 4/15 but that may not generally be the case. I would probably ask somebody at the institution that you are planning to sign with since they are likely the only people who can really answer your question.

You have to get written release before accepting a different offer.

From the link I posted above:
Q: What time on April 15 is the deadline?

The deadline should be 11:59 pm of April 15 in the time zone of the school offering financial support.

My friend requested an extension from the school that he'll commit to if the waitlists reject him and explained the situation. He got an extra week.

University of Virginia made their deadline 11:59 tonight which seems sketchy, and also a violation of the resolution that they signed.

It could be so that they can admit off their waitlist earlier tomorrow to hit their marks by the end of the day. It’s hard to say though.
