GPA: 4.0
Type of Student: International Asian Male

GRE Revised General Test:
Q: 170 (96%)

Me: Indian female
Undergrad Institution: Top research institution in India (BS-MS dual degree)
Major: Mathematics
GPA: 7.5/10.0 (it's a decent GPA from where I'm coming, but there are a lot of C's and C+'s in my core math courses)

Grad Institution: New York University Tandon School of Engineering
Major: Mathematics
GPA: 3.95/4.00 (Major GPA: 4.00/4.00, few courses from NYU Courant)

GRE:
Q:162
V: 162
W: 4.5
GRE Subject Math: 680 (55%ile) - Submitting only when its absolutely needed

Experience:
Research: Infectious disease modeling, population dynamics, one completed and one ongoing thesis in theoretical neuroscience.
Teaching: Tutor for Calculus and Linear Algebra, TA for Calculus I.

Recommendation Letters: My thesis advisor/Mentor from India, math profs from NYU Tandon and Courant. Hopefully strong.
Awards/Honors: Prestigious scholarship from India during undergrad, fellowship from a reputed research institution in India, merit scholarship from grad institution.
Other: 1 Publication in a low journal, 1 poster presentation in Chemistry.

Research Interests: Mathematical Biology, Computational neuroscience

Schools applying:

Ambitious
- New York University (Courant Institute) - No rejection yet, but I know they have already sent out invitations to prospective students.
- Columbia U (Applied Physics and Applied Math)
- Georgia Tech (Math - Quantitative Biosciences) - Phone interview (12/12) as a pre-screen. Accepted (01/16) with TA and RA funding ($26,220/year).
- UC Berkeley - UCSF (joint Bioengineering program) - Rejected (01/14). Maybe I'm destined to remain in math after all!
- Brown University (Applied Math) - Rejected (02/06). I'm so happy that I took that shot.

Match
- Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Math) - Accepted (12/20)! TA funding of at least $23,000 excluding Summer (03/11)

I received my admit from RPI extremely early (12/20), so I decided to not apply for any more safety/match schools. Saved me some serious $$.

GPA: 3.87/4.00 (Converted)
Type of Student: Canadian/Asian Male

GRE Revised General Test:

Posting because all of the other applicant profiles have helped me very much in my application process. Good luck to everyone!

Final edit: Good luck to future applicants. A recommender told me that the reason I was rejected by almost every american school (as an international applicant) probably had to do with my math subject GRE, so focus on that!

UChicago -- Rejected (3/14)
Ohio State -- Accepted!!!!!! 27k min a year ( including summer. No teaching duties the first 2 years and a half)
Penn State -- Accepted!!!!!! 34k for 5 years + 3k for travels and computers + 2k first year + summer opportunities. No teaching duties the first year.
ATTENDING!!!
CUNY -- Accepted! 35k for 5 years, no teaching duties first two years. Possible summer opportunities. (Last update: 3/1)
EPFL (Switzerland) -- Rejected :c (3/11)
Oxford (masters) -- No funding :c

I am very excited to have been accepted at 3 universities!!! I did not expect this :D :D :D :D :D

For those still deciding, I highly recommend to bargain. I told Ohio that Penn had offered me no teaching duties the first year, and the next day I received an upgraded offer with no teaching duties. I also told CUNY I couldn’t accept their offer because they initially offered me much less money and they immediately answered they were trying to get me a better package. That might have been coincidence, but still.

GRE Subject Test in Mathematics:
M: 540 ( Took this one in October to improve on a 640 I had done previously... kill me right    )

Research Experience: I wrote a Master thesis but didn't publish anything new.
Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Got a very competitve scholarship for my master's programme on a top university.
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Nah
Relevant coursework: Took several graduate courses on many topics but mostly on Number Theory and Algebraic Geometry, got the maximum grade on a very difficult Algebraic Geometry course.

Program Applying: Pure Math PhD

Schools I am applying to:

MIT (had to choose a top 5 school. Didn't like Harvard and Berkeley when I visited. Couldn't live in a small place like Stanford or Princeton. MIT is cool)
Columbia (I dreamed so many times I got an acceptance email... dreams...)
UC San Diego (looks like the most beautiful place on Earth)
UT Austin (because Texas)
NYU (yep, I am keen on living in New York)
Brown (good school, doesn't require GRE)
Utah (can't believe I applied to the desert, looks like a fun adventure, has a great Algebraic Geometry dept)
UOregon (maybe a safe school to apply, very good Algebraic Geometry dept, doesn't require GRE, beautiful nature surrounding it) Accepted! full tuition waiver+ health insurance + ~17k/academic year with ~4.5k summer bonus. First acceptance, I would be very happy to attend but let's see about the others first.

UMass, Amherst Rejected (4/19/19)

University of Georgia (UGA)

SAFETY
Binghamton University Admitted (1/15/19)
University of Memphis Admitted (1/31/19)

I chose to go to Memphis after they offered me a fellowship. I emailed people at UIC, UGA, and UMass and their response made it pretty clear my chances of being admitted were low. It also seems like, as far as their applicant pool is concerned, I was very average. The person at UMass that got back to me made it seem like they were working to the center with several rounds of acceptances/rejections. In hindsight, I should have made my matches my reaches and I should have applied to more schools between my safeties and my matches.

Undergrad Institution:Big State School, somewhere known for math
Major(s):Math
Minor(s):Finance
GPA:3.761, Major around 3.89
Type of Student: International Male

GRE Revised General Test:
Q: 169 (96%)
V: 153 (61%)
W: 4.0 (59%) Hope V and W dont matter that much
GRE Subject Test in Mathematics:
M: 840 (85%) better than expected, but probabilty does not matter that much

TOEFL Score: (xx = Rxx/Lxx/Sxx/Wxx) (if applicable)

Program Applying: mostly pure, some applied

Research Experience: At my school, year-long honors thesis, covers stochastics and geometry. Now I graduated, but still in a research group in my home uni making weekly meetings on some fancier stochastic process. some schools know about this.
Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Research award from Math department, dean's list stuff. Nothing fancy
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Math Physics tutor for one year. Currently as an analyst, arguably relevant to math. But I did build a Markov model for this job.
Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help: Have 4 cross-listed class, I thought they were the highest classes we could take, turns out to be wrong. Finished college in 3 years (not sure this is good or bad). Should have two strong rec letters. one is from my research project supervisor, the other is from a relatively well-known prof, where I was the only student for one of his courses.
Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: Since I was in the applied math track, so I took a lot of applied courses, and litter pure course. for example, I took anything related to prob, DFQ, but no course on topology, algebra. I was following stein's series and some algebra book and wrote in on Personal Statement, do hope they care.

Applying to Where: (Color use here is welcome)

Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Software engineer internship at Big-N tech company for a summer
Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help: No grad courses, one well-known mathematical physics letter writer but wasn't super close with him

Applying to Where: (Color use here is welcome)
Berkeley Pure Math PhD Rejected (2/6)
UCLA Pure Math PhD Rejected (2/28)
UCSD Pure Math PhD Rejected (2/28)
UCI Pure Math PhD Admitted (2/5) funded + a lot of fellowship support, I think around 50k in total Withdrawn (4/2)
Cornell Pure Math PhD Rejected (2/7)

UIUC Pure Math PhD Rejected (2/18)
CMU Pure Math PhD Rejected (4/9)
Stanford CS PhD Rejected (2/7)

CMU CS PhD Rejected (2/28)

Since I got a return offer from my internship company, I only applied for schools that I thought was better than going back to the company. Many rejections to be expected.

EDIT: Yup I knew I'd get rejected by everyone! Hella looking forward to join USC's' theory CS group though

Undergrad Institution: University of Rochester
Major(s): Mathematics
GPA: 3.6
Math GPA: 3.7
Type of Student: Domestic Male

GRE General Test:

Q: 160 (74%)
V: 155 (69%)
W: 4.0 (59%)

In the future, if we become professors, I would like us to ban the general GRE from being used to consider applicants into math Phd programs. It's a stupid exam for our purpose. I am serious about this. I will be writing letters to graduate chairs once I obtain my Phd and I hope you get behind my cause.

GRE Subject Test in Mathematics:
M: 710(61%) (Not disastrous I suppose)

Research Experience: One REU at Purdue University in 2016. Also a senior thesis during completed during 2018. No publications, but some mildly original work was done.

Program Applying: Pure Mathematics

Applying to Where: I split the schools I am applying to into two categories.

Schools I really like:
UW Madison Wait listed (Allegedly on a short list) 2/28/2019 Accepted 3/4/2019 + Fellowship. Let's Go!!!! ATTENDING
Duke Rejected 1/31/19 Sad
University of Illinois Urbana Champaign / Accepted 1/16/2019 + 2 fellowships Declined
Minnesota Twin Cities Declined
University of Maryland Wait listed and asked if still interested 4/11/2019 Declined
Georgia Tech / Accepted 1/25/2019 Stipend at 2185$ a month + 5500$ a year fellowship and reduced teaching Declined

Schools I like:
University of Washington Seattle Wait listed and asked if still interested 3/9/2019 Declined
Purdue Accepted w/ full funding + reduced teaching 1/28/2019 Declined
UC San Diego Rejected 3/7/2019 at 3 am
Johns Hopkins Accepted w/ full funding, Stipend at 30K a year + 8K fellowship (I feel like this is quite high) 1/31/2019 Declined
UC Davis
Washington University St Louis / Oficially Accepted with full funding on 1/29 + Unoficially accepted on 1/17/2019 Declined
Michigan State University Accepted with full funding 2/14 Declined
University of Rochester Rejected 2/15 I told them to do this, but they could've at least let me decline them instead.

Undergrad Institution: Private lib arts, 60-80 ranked, not known for math
Major(s): Math - applied track
GPA: 3.9/4.0 - all A's in math classes except for one B+
Type of Student: DWM

GRE Revised General Test:
Q: 169 (96%) took one practice test for prep :P
V: 165 (96%) Magoosh app pulled through
W: 4.5 (82%)

GRE Subject Test in Mathematics:
M: 650 (48%) blegh  submitting selectively

studied way more for the subject test than the general GRE... oh well

Program Applying: Some applied PhD, some pure but with mentions of interest in working with applied-ish faculty, some masters

Research Experience: Senior thesis relating to stochastic processes in progress. Also did some work on an interdisciplinary project with a medical center in motion capture analysis.
Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Dean's list every semester, one academic excellence award to top 10 students of class in sophomore year.
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: One semester of calc 1 review instructor, one data analyst internship, now in spring 2019 working as a calculus 2 review instructor and multivariable calculus 2 grader.
Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help: I am expecting the letters to be very good. Two of them I did research with and took 4 classes each with, and the other one is 'known' in his field but will be more of a standard recommendation. I also have solid coding skills.
Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: Took an analysis course at an Ivy and got an A+, which they see on a separate transcript from that school. Finished high school in Germany and am fluent in German and French. I also wasn't a full math major until my junior year, at which point I had only taken calc 1-4. From that point on I took almost exclusively math classes though. I also think my personal statement is quite good :D

Applying to Where: (no particular order here)
Rensselaer Polytechnic - PhD - First admission!! 1/18 funding TBA; declined
Tufts - PhD - Admitted!! 2/15 with $24k/yr TA'ship // 3/30: RA'ship for 2 years + 2 summers with addt'l funding // 4/9: addt'l fellowship offer $5k first two years declined 4/13 -- everyone there is so kind it was difficult to send the decline :(
Dartmouth - PhD - Rejected 3/4 :'(
Temple - PhD - withdrawn 3/23
Stony Brook - Applied PhD - Admitted!! :P 2/13 $19k/yr TA'ship + $10k/yr fellowship  + $3k recruitment offer declined 4/10
UC Irvine - Applied PhD - "To be recommended for admission" at the end of interview 2/15 -- waitlisted 2/22, deception 100 :? withdrawn 4/10
UC Davis - Applied PhD - ??
CU Denver - Applied PhD - Admitted 01/30, $19k TA'ship declined
Notre Dame - Applied PhD - Accepted 4/08 with TA funding declined 4/10
Johns Hopkins - Applied PhD - wait-listed after email inquiry 4/4 ; Admitted 4/9!!! ATTENDING!!!
Boston University - PhD - Admitted!! 2/21, $35k ( DAMN ) TA'ship decline 4/13
Brandeis - PhD - heard nothing until they emailed me 4/15 asking if I was still interested lmao
UCSC - MA - admitted w funding $19k TAship declined
U Vermont - MS - Admitted 2/4, funding TBA declined
University of Bonn - MS - Admitted 01/25 8) declined

It's all done and I couldn't be happier with how things went! Last year I applied to 11 REU programs and managed to get rejected from all of them, so I wasn't all too ambitious with the schools I was applying to -- I just wanted to get into ONE school for sure. Turns out I got into almost all of them!

Undergrad Institution: Large Public School, top 25 in math
Major(s): Chemical Engineering
GPA: 3.59/4.00
Student Type: This shouldn't affect anyone's admission :)

GRE Revised General Test
Q: 168 (94%)
V: 154 (65%)
W: 5 (92%)

GRE Subject Test in Mathematics:
M: 690 (57%)

Program Applying: Pure Math - PhD unless otherwise stated

Research Experience: One summer of research on fluid mechanics, but none directly in math.
Awards/Honors/Recognition: Typical university awards: Dean's List, etc.
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Currently working as a data engineer. Worked as a grader several semesters.
Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help: Two really good letters, one more personal than the other. One more generic but not bad.
Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: I didn't take an advanced math class until Junior Year. I may have jumped into too many at once, hurting my GPA. I'm not one to make excuses, but this is mostly anonymous :)

Applying to Where: (The order I think I want)
University of Notre Dame - Rejected 2019/03/01 by email to check portal. I’m pretty bummed about this but it’s not entirely unexpected.
University of Kentucky - Admitted 2019/02/08 by acceptance letter via email. Full tuition and $16,380 stipend for 20 hours / week as a TA. Additional $3,000 fellowship for 3 years. ATTENDING! - But will defer to Fall 2020 for family purposes.
University of Rochester - Waitlisted 2019/04/11 after inquiring via email. They said I’m 20th and people are dropping off quickly. I would be interested in finding out more but time is running short. Withdrawn 2019/04/15.
Vanderbilt University -
Baylor University - Admitted 2019/01/19. Full tuition and $24,000/year stipend, plus $6,000 University Fellowship. I'm very excited someone wants me a lot, even if it's not a well-known program. Off to a good start. Declined 2019/04/01.
SUNY at Albany - Rejected 2019/04/19 via email to check portal. I’m pretty surprised by this one but it was so late I had already decided.
University of Connecticut - Waitlisted 2019/03/07 by email. Withdrawn 2019/04/11. I submitted my application late so I’m a bit shocked I’m even being considered.
Wake Forest University (Master's Degree) - contacted for phone interview 2019/01/22. I think I’m accepted? Withdrawn 2019/02/08.

Undergrad Institution: Midwest State School 75-100
Major(s): Math B.S
Minor(s): N/A
GPA: 3.8
Type of Student: Domestic Asian Male

GRE Revised General Test:
Q: 169
V: 162
W: 4.5
GRE Subject Test in Mathematics:
M: 750 (70%)

Program Applying: Pure Math, hedging on Applied Math at some places 8). I want to study hyperbolic PDEs.
Research Experience: ~One year of research resulting in no papers—in retrospect this was more like extracurricular learning. Senior thesis? Had opportunity to travel to MIT for summer school in PDEs/Mathematical GR. Attended research conference at home university.
Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Department Scholarships, University scholarships, obtained a research grant from university for undergraduate research.
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Tutored calc/stats
Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help: Well connected letter writers
Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: Took a very heavy course load in exclusively math. Will have taken 25 math courses, 13 of which are considered graduate level. Due to university's grad. program, however, many of these would not be considered graduate level at other schools, i.e grad analysis =/= baby Rudin. Due to research opportunities, I wrote very specifically in my personal statement about what I wanted to accomplish/study in grad school.
