610 (~40th percentile) here. Not great, but I improved significantly from my September score, and I’ve seen people with similar scores get into the places I’m applying to. Thank God it’s over.

I thought I was going to take this thing once and be done with it. I guess I was wrong lol.

Well I just saw more score and I'm not quite sure what to do. Way below what I expected, and I'm certainly not going to get into half the schools I'm applying to now. Not sure if I should even bother wasting the money sending the applications in at this point, maybe just apply for a few masters and then reapply for a PhD once that's done, though that requires money and time that I don't quite have. Very disappointed and even a little distraught. What do you all think?

I'm postponing my application for another year. There are other reasons than this, but it's a large part of why.

How do you know how low is too low for the schools you’re applying to ? Is there any data for average scores for certain schools ?

I got a 690 (57%), which is improvement from the last time I took it but still not where I wanted to be. I’m applying to half group 1 schools and half group 2’s (AMS groupings), do I have a chance at any group 1’s?

Certainly, my school and many others don't toss out your application if you get above a 40%. I know some very smart people who were in the 40-50% range.

I got a 740 on my October test, this is also my first time taking the test.
Can anybody tell me if this is an acceptable score? I'm applying to PhD in Mathematics at: University at Buffalo (this is a little out of reach), University of Florida and Colorado State University (these are my applications in the USA that need an mGRE score).

I improved from last time and I had little to no confidence at all, I felt like I did significantly worse. This test is such a crapshoot lol.

Is 90 percentile good for top colleges like Princeton?

I just see the scaled score and the percentile. Isn't there supposed to be an additional raw score? At least I want to know how many problems I got right! :|

Someone got into Princeton (+ Stanford and Harvard) with 80-90% (http://www.mathematicsgre.com/viewtopic ... 695#p15152) but she's probably super special in ways we can't understand.

I got into (and graduated from) Princeton with 77%/770.

You must have had lots of undergrad research then.

Rumor has it that Princeton is one of those places where you need to have connections in order to get in.

Has everyone gotten their score already? I'm still waiting... Is this normal?

C'mon, you know that's not true. Of course having connections may help your application, but you don't need connections. It's merit-based - though Princeton could fill its incoming classes 4 times over and not see a big drop-off in quality, so it's always a little random.

I don't think a 740 will put you into trouble for schools ranking lower than or equal to 30-50, assuming your application materials overall (like REU, rec letters, GPA, sop) are decent. I know people getting into top20 phd program with 60+ percentile in GRE. Certainly they are strong in other aspects but this shows that a 740 is definitely acceptable. So good luck :D

People get into top 20 schools with scores in the 50s too. Some programs care more about this than others. A lot of them just want to make sure you didn't get something abysmal so they can move in to the rest of your app and see what you've actually done.
