How to email asking about application status

Help! I would really like to email some grad schools asking about my application status. Is this a good idea? If so, what is the proper way of asking? Thank you in advance!

Don't. It will only annoy them, if you must then wait till march.

If you're feeling nervous/impatient/paranoid about your apps I think pretty much everyone here can relate to that; that said, it's way too early to be sending followup emails. Based on posts here & gradcafe, most programs haven't even sent out a first round of acceptances yet. Give it til the end of the month at least.
