Re: Fall 2020 Sweat Thread
Re: Fall 2020 Sweat Thread
It is 50-50 that I’ll decline my offer from OSU (I’ve narrowed my options to two programs). So, depending on how many offers they have made relative to their expected number of matriculating students, that could lead to some movement on the waitlist. But it’s speculation so take it with a grain of salt; all I can say is that I might decline, whether that leads to movement in the waitlist is anyone’s guess. Good luck at any rate - we all need it.prospectivestudent69 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 7:35 pmCurrently on the waitlist at Ohio State and am ranked in the top priority (group 1). Anyone have any idea if I'll actually end up getting off the waitlist or is this more of an empty promise?

I’ve heard nothing from Penn State. The only waitlists I’ve heard from are Notre Dame and Tamu

Rejection from home school. Never have good news. It’s time to say goodbye to math.

It happened once on me when I was an undergrad. My energy and patience are also lost during this period of waiting. I am confused about how they pick students and I don’t know where to improve myself.chrisps1992 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 6:40 pmDon’t give up, it’s very rare that someone doesn’t get in anywhere!

I'm feeling pretty similar to you, I got into my home school but it's like... not an option. If it's the only place I get into then I'm gonna take a gap year to improve my subject GRE and hopefully get in on a project with one of my professors. A PhD is a big commitment of time and effort (and acceptance into a program that you love is a big deal), so taking some extra time to get into one that you're really excited for is worth it. Whatever the outcome is, we will be okay. Nevertheless very stressed and frequently panicked!SKS2s17fa wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 7:05 pmIt happened once on me when I was an undergrad. It probably means you got rejected. Stony Brook doesn't waitlist and they don't really accept anyone after rejections go out.discretephenom wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 9:15 pmWhat does this mean if I have not heard anything affirmative or negative from Stony Brook?chrisps1992 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 5:06 pmYep, stony brook rejections are out. Rejected by Stony Brook... not even waitlisted... But I know this will happen since my TOEFL is 87, and they prefer above 100

I was admitted by Washington on Sunday (2/23). I saw on the gradcafe that a few others were admitted to Washington, one of which was admitted after a Skype interview. However I didn't have a Skype interview prior to my admittance.

to be honest... with my toefl of 87, and 19 in speaking I thought it would be impossible to get a US university(veryone said that the minimum is 100 to be considered). Also I didn't do the GRE subject test and my GRE general was pretty mean (308). I get accepted in two and waitlisted on Notre Dame. I think was better than I thought.

Has anyone heard something about Rice? The grad cafe shows nothing.
Re: Fall 2020 Sweat Thread
I e-mailed Rice yesterday and they said this:
The admissions committee has concluded its initial review of the applications to our Ph.D. program and have made some offers of admission.
It is expected that as some of the initial offers are accepted or declined, we will be able to make more offers.
Please consult the status page of your application for additional information.
Thank you for your interest in our program.

Thanks. I applied for the CAAM program and there is no update on the portal. CAAM' s FAQ page had highlighted that they will start to make offers no earlier than mid-March, maybe they will start in April... It will be an extremely tough waiting game for us

Yes! On some waitlists right now so I'm still hopeful, just mentally preparing for the worst case since the worst case really isn't that bad.Dopeboyz wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 7:58 pmYou could take a PhD at your school and transfer out after getting a masters.kansas_math wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 7:33 pmI'm feeling pretty similar to you, I got into my home school but it's like... not an option. Oh and for anyone who applied to Amherst, they're obviously done with the first round but expect to make more offers and presumably aren't at a point where they've rejected anyone yet.

Has anyone heard back from Stanford (pure math)? Somehow my app says Incomplete when they marked all the documents as received and I'm not sure if I'm still in the applicant pool or not

Looks like Washington sent waitlists, I wonder if rejections are going to follow close behind.
Re: Fall 2020 Sweat Thread
Applied to UCSD PhD in Math (Stats concentration) and got this response:
Expecting to rejected either way, though.
Please forgive me for the incorrect information in my previous email. Due to outside factors, our admission process has been somewhat delayed. Currently we hope to have all decisions made and all applicants notified by March 15.
Again, I am sorry if this delay has caused you any inconvenience.

Did you send an official transcript? It says they won't mark it as "complete" unless they have an official transcript, but they will still review the application with an unofficial transcript. Either way I wouldn't be worried about it, some programs just don't mark it complete. Too bad they haven't sent out rejections yet, was expecting NYU and Stanford to knock me down much quicker.

Emailed them today but no response as of yet.The Admissions Committee is still reviewing applications and should have the majority of offer letters sent out by the end of February.

How screwed am I if I haven't received any acceptances yet? I've been put on one waitlist and haven't heard back from around 9 other schools. What do? This whole process just gives me mountains and mountains of anxiety. I ran into my letter writer today and he asked me about my results, and he just kinda shut up once I told him. These are very trying times.

I do know a friend of mine who applied to 7-8 schools and yet to heard back from any of them (no acceptances/rejections/waitlists). Bad luck maybe?
