You all really think a Professor is going to be browsing this time-wasting forum?
It is clear that whoever posted in the fake prof identity just got the name from the Syracuse website, which is easy to do.
Of course, trolls (by definition) have a lot of free time but does anyone seriously think nicole2 will be posting almost every day for the past three months, with a lot of details and personality traits of a person, and just be fake? This isn't the presidential election. Y'all just haters.

Hello -
I've seen there are couple admits with fellowships from Clemson on GradCafe. Have anyone heard back from them?
Thanks.

Re: Fall 2020 Sweat Thread
If I remember correctly, in my interview I was asked three to four questions. The first question was which course was the hardest for me and the second question was which is the course that I most enjoyed or found most useful. The third and fourth questions were related to inquiring who I would be interested in working with at the department and what my primary research interests were. All in all, pretty straightforward questions.
Of course the type of questions you may be asked may be different depending on the professor who interviews you.

Re: Fall 2020 Sweat Thread
Berkeley is offering a digital open house, but I don't think it's a great replacement unfortunately. Berkeley is a fairly unique (and to an extent polarizing) city to live in. Probably what they had to do, though.

I am wondering whether her offer from umn is real. She got this offer way too early (She claimed it mid-Feb if I remember correctly).

So true. We email these people directly about our own applications and they say nothing. Not a chance they’d be here telling students about offers.emily.f wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 8:33 pmYou all really think a Professor is going to be browsing this time-wasting forum?

Re: Fall 2020 Sweat Thread
My impression has been that people tend to either love it or hate it, depending on the person. It has a certain... feel and aesthetic to it, and if you're into it, you'll probably love the city, but if not, it can be a drag to live here. The city has some strong negatives going for it; if you can't appreciate the positives, you may not have a good time (negatives such as being somewhat run-down, extremely bad parking [counterbalanced by fairly decent public transit], astronomical cost of living, and a pretty high crime rate). The city is quite liberal, as is the student body, which will be a positive or negative depending on what you're after. It's also quite a busy / dense city, with a lot of people everywhere, which again, will depend on you whether or not you like it. I have friends who love it in Berkeley, and some that want to get out as fast as they can.

I don’t take orders from you. You need to be banned because your profile is a lie. Several of the schools you say you’re waitlisted at have not waitlisted anyone yet. And I know because I’ve been in contact with the graduate directors. If you are real, prove it. No one can get your last name from a screen shot on imgur. You are feigning concern because you’ve been exposed.

I don’t appreciate the implication. I do not do things like that. The only contact I have with institutions concerns me, and me only. And as much as I think you’re a troll and just someone trying to start arguments, I would NEVER attempt to jeopardize someone’s admissions. Someone else contacted that professor.nicole2 wrote:Sun Mar 08, 2020 3:36 amso you are the one who got me in trouble. you are such an ahole you have no idea how much damage you've done

Someone said UCSD is trying to release decisions by March 15. I think I saw someone else say mid-to-late March, so perhaps the 15th is optimistic.
Maryland is ALWAYS like this. They rejected me and several other people AFTER the April 15th deadline last year.

Do you think the outbreak could delay decisions past April 15? If that's the case, what do we do for offers that require you to reply by the 15th?

Until and unless we hear otherwise, we have to assume the April 15th date will stand.

Really sweating now. USC cancelled their visit day today and gave no mention of reimbursing the non-refundable costs incurred when planning the trip. I emailed them about it and they seem to be hesitant. I cannot take on the $550+ cost of that trip. I would have visited and risked getting sick before paying it myself.

You should be able to get the airfare back for no charge. I know that American Airlines and United are waiving their usual $200+ change fee for at least the month of March, and I assume other airlines are following suit. Though it's worth noting that some airlines only offer refunds in the form of travel vouchers (which often expire after a year).analysister wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 9:01 pmReally sweating now. As for hotel and other associated costs, you should call the establishment(s) and ask for a full refund. If any amount does not get refunded, you should endlessly hound USC until they fully reimburse you.

Re: Fall 2020 Sweat Thread
The change fee is just to switch the flight. That would be a wonderful option if I had any other foreseeable travel. Unfortunately, at this time I do not. But I will definitely try to call the hotel. Thank you for the advice.CoronalRain wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 9:33 pmYou should be able to get the airfare back for no charge. USC is saying they will pay "cancellation fees" but not the full cost, of course there are no cancellation fees. I booked basic economy for everything since I wanted to spend as little of their money as possible, so that makes refunds more difficult.
