Anyone like me still receive nothing from the schools? I even have not received anything from my own school. Do I need to contact the admissions? I have heard that someone is responsible for sending offers to international students in my school, but I don’t know him. Is it good to bother him?

Same. Everyone tells me they are reviewing applications.

Good news for me, I just received an offer from the applied math department in my school, though it was the safest place and I want to study pure math (geometry related). Good luck for you.

Just got an email from Minnesota asking for an interview. I was under the impression that the PhD admission process rarely involves interviews, guess I was wrong.

I received a call from Ann Arbor today, and Google says the phone number belongs to UMichigan. So I called them back and asked about the status, and was told that they wanted to schedule a 15-30 minute interview over Skype.

After we decided on the date and time, I was asked if I am interested to enroll in their Master's program.

So what should I be expecting from the interview, and is it a bad sign that they're gauging my interest of getting a Masters instead of a Ph.D?

I didn’t apply to any masters programs or even check any boxes on PhD apps saying I’d consider a masters if rejected, but I’d do one at Michigan in a heartbeat if it was funded. Let us know what happens!

I’d also be interested to hear about the Minnesota interview/if they ask you about a masters as well.

I had two interviews for a PhD. The first "interview" was me interviewing the school. They did not ask me a single question other than if I wanted to do pure or applied math and made me ask them questions for over half an hour. It felt much more like a sales pitch and them gauging my interest. At the end of the interview, they told me to expect an offer, which I eventually did get. My other interview was much more formal. They asked me questions like what area of math am I most interested in and why, give a famous theorem I like, and explain my research in more depth. And half way through it became a sales pitch and them trying to gauge my interest in their offer and was told I would be given an offer. I don't think most schools will ask you technical questions about math since that sounds more like a oral exam rather than an interview.

Since you've gotten into UCLA, your credentials is similar if not better than the couple other people that got into UCLA on the main thread. So, my miles may vary.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think all STEM Ph.Ds are fully funded. At least, I have not heard of any institution that does not provide funding for its Ph.D students -- I've only heard of unfunded Master's programs.

Graduate Center sometimes offers PhD's that have a tution waiver but no stipend.
