I have no word from Utah. The grad coordinator is also absolutely silent. What could it mean? Was I rejected?

My kid, I know, is still waiting on that one. Got UCSD the other day, fully funded though.AugmentedSeventh wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2020 10:48 amDid Ohio State send out their second round of offers?

Alright, alright, alright. First acceptance. Brandeis University. Finally. Time to withdraw applications from McDonalds and Burger King for the next academic year. Maybe it's possible to defer them for 5 years.

Illinois says: "Stipend is going to be x USD per month for 9 months with a possibility of summer support." What is summer support exactly? Funds for the remaining 3 months?

Re: Fall 2020 Sweat Thread
Does anyone know what is going on with UCSD this year? Their pattern of offers/rejections is way off from what it looked like in the past.
Re: Fall 2020 Sweat Thread
I'm not sure what UCSD is up to either; I got their admissions notice a few days ago, but you're right, it's significantly off-pattern. Honestly a lot of schools are breaking with the patterns of the last few years; being more sporadic and later, in general. If it's any consolation, another part of UCSD's past patterns has been to send one final big wave of rejections when they're done or nearly done. I haven't seen the huge reject wave on grad cafe yet, so they may not be completely done.
Relatedly, I'm definitely curious to hear what Rutgers has been doing. I was admitted pretty early, but so far my admission is the only one recorded this year on Grad cafe (and I know I'm not the only admit so far due to an email that was sent out).

I was also admitted pretty early to Rutgers, and I think I got the same email you were referring to. Your application is still under consideration. We expect to have all applicants notified, one way or the other, within the next two weeks.
Re: Fall 2020 Sweat Thread
I didn’t even submit my application to a school and they decided to reject me based upon my first and last name. They told me there were a lot of competitive applicants this year and my application was seriously considered. Feels good that I can compete with the best with only my first and last name.

I'm so happy for whoever this person is. Their descent into glossolalia is very cute. I'd like to think that their acceptance read:
"We want u

Happy Valentine's Day
Love,
Princeton"

Anyone have any tips on how to go from PhD to industry? No way in hell am I going on the tenure track grind.
Re: Fall 2020 Sweat Thread
Do most schools release the first round of their offers in one day, or over a period of time?
If we did not get admitted to a school when someone else have gotten acceptance, doesn't that just mean the school has secretly waitlisted us?
So much anxiety.

Re: Fall 2020 Sweat Thread
That varies a lot by school. I think most common is several waves or trickling admissions, but a few schools do one or two giant waves and then are mostly done.
Re: Fall 2020 Sweat Thread
Because we know most people don't decline offers until April 15 since there are no incentive for us to do so. So it is natural to believe that most schools release new offers one at a time (after the initial wave) upon offers are being declined.

UCSD has an event for admitted students on March 4-5. They better be done sending acceptances some time before that.

Yeah I just got waitlisted (but didn't accept the spot) so I would assume they are reaching out to everyone soon (good or bad news). Remember to check your spam boxes, I've had a few decisions go there.

I got into some top 20s with a mGRE ~= 60th percentile. I think letters of recs matter much more and research experience + grad courses.analysister wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2020 8:51 pmYep! Situation doesn't look hopeful though. They made some waitlist decisions and sent out some rejections. I guess next wave of rejections should be upon us anytime now

There's an acceptance from UIC up on grad cafe. Maybe they are sending out their first round of offers? If so, another one of my schools and still nothing...

Yep, can verify, and there’s another up now. Since I think someone asked earlier (?) their open house is scheduled for March 13thbark_muffalo wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2020 11:49 pmThere's an acceptance from UIC up on grad cafe. Speaking of open houses in the Chicago area, are there any Northwestern admittees here who can tell me when that visit weekend is? Just out of curiosity

Maybe it is a mistake joining this forum. How do I delete the account?
Edit: I do want to thank the people that were nice to me though. Thanks for your support among all the haters. I know there're definitely some people on this forum (and in real life) that would celebrate if I get in nowhere and not succeed. But, I do thank you for your advice - if it mean anything.
My account was banned, I'm still unsure how it's working now. All my posts automatically got removed. As about how one could know I was an Indian, I clearly mentioned it in my applicant profile (which was deleted along with all my other posts).
Re: Fall 2020 Sweat Thread
To rest of the forum, this forum has been immensely helpful, I have received 3 acceptances so far and I can definitely attribute some of it to this page, especially the applicant profiles and fall sweat sections. However, being banned after being racially abused and then being called a liar is a bit much, hence I'll be limiting my activity on this forum. Wishing everyone all the best.
