Just wanted to share that I poked Cornell and they said "We have already made our first round of offers. We hope to be able to make a few more offers later, perhaps in April. This is the extent of the information released by the admissions committee.".

I think the original poster meant "southern cali" as in the University of Southern California (USC). In which case, I haven't heard anything from USC and I applied in November. If it helps at all, I also haven't heard anything from UCSD yet but I've seen some of the recent posts on GradCafe.

I usually sent emails to the math graduate coordinator and just said I've got some offers while [you school] is one of my top choices and ask for info. Not everyone replies though.

I wouldn't believe that. Columbia is accepting not more than 5 students this year. The guys they end up accepting must be pretty crazy and would probably not post on GradCafe.

I would be curious to know how many applicants they end up getting since there was some miscommunication on if they would even accept applications this year, but either way chances for Columbia seem < epsilon.

Ah, thanks! I'm never sure anymore what is true on grad cafe. It must be tricky trying to run the whole process remotely in most cases.

Yep, just a short rejection letter behind it. No info on number of applicants/cohort size.

Exactly right? I initially intended to apply to Columbia (sometimes round July-August), but then they said that they were not accepting applications for the Math PhD program. In November, when they took a U-Turn, I had already finalized my school-list and so I decided against applying. This would probably be true for quite a few people. So, it might not get as many applications as some of the other Ivies.

The impression I got from the email is that there may actually be more people admitted. I can put the contents here more explicitly. This was sent on Friday.

"The first round of admittances was sent out yesterday. I have only seen a partial list, so until they are completely done I can't answer whether you were admitted or not. My guess is another week for everything to be completed."

At least one person declined the offer, so there will probably be at least one more offer made (though that may be 'second round').

Want to ask the same thing, didn’t receive an offer or rejection today. This is basically my first choice...
