There is a Columbia acceptance on Gradcafe, anyone know how valid it might be?
for current and prospective graduate students in mathematics

I got an email that I had an offer in the portal.rough.manifold wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 10:07 pmI did not receive any emails from Caltech, how were you guys accepted or rejected if you wouldn't mind I ask?
Nope no offer for me then oh well thanks.Catalan wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 10:09 pmI got an email that I had an offer in the portal.rough.manifold wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 10:07 pmI did not receive any emails from Caltech, how were you guys accepted or rejected if you wouldn't mind I ask?
You got MIT though, I'd trade lolrough.manifold wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 10:24 pmNope no offer for me then oh well thanks.Catalan wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 10:09 pmI got an email that I had an offer in the portal.rough.manifold wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 10:07 pmI did not receive any emails from Caltech, how were you guys accepted or rejected if you wouldn't mind I ask?
I was wondering the same thing!RunningOutOfHope wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 3:46 pmWhat and who do you guys email when inquiring if all offers have been sent?
I think UCSD released some decisionscauchysequence wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 1:33 pmAnybody heard back from southern cali? I've seen some acceptances from grad cafe
I think the original poster meant "southern cali" as in the University of Southern California (USC). In which case, I haven't heard anything from USC and I applied in November. If it helps at all, I also haven't heard anything from UCSD yet but I've seen some of the recent posts on GradCafe.collies20 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 5:12 pmI think UCSD released some decisionscauchysequence wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 1:33 pmAnybody heard back from southern cali? I received an email like a week ago to check another portal where I have to create an account and there was my rejection letter.IdeallyRingless wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 9:09 pmI think the original poster meant "southern cali" as in the University of Southern California (USC). I usually sent emails to the math graduate coordinator and just said I've got some offers while [you school] is one of my top choices and ask for info. Not everyone replies though.RunningOutOfHope wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 3:46 pmWhat and who do you guys email when inquiring if all offers have been sent?
I wouldn't believe that. Columbia is accepting not more than 5 students this year. The guys they end up accepting must be pretty crazy and would probably not post on GradCafe.RunningOutOfHope wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 7:10 pmThere is a Columbia acceptance on Gradcafe, anyone know how valid it might be?
I would be curious to know how many applicants they end up getting since there was some miscommunication on if they would even accept applications this year, but either way chances for Columbia seem < epsilon.Albert_Eisenstein wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 8:59 amI wouldn't believe that. I talked to a professor last Friday (a week from today) on the subject saying that they have started reading the applications but the process is rather slow.
Ah, thanks! I'm never sure anymore what is true on grad cafe. It must be tricky trying to run the whole process remotely in most cases.
They’re real, a friend and I both got rejected today. Glad they sent rejections at a sane time this year.dumbquestionsonly wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 3:32 pmIt looks like a couple Northwestern rejections were sent out (according to gradcafe). Anyone know anything about whether these are real?
Thank you for verifying. They just sent an email to check the portal?5IsTheLargestInteger wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 4:40 pmThey’re real, a friend and I both got rejected today. Yep, just a short rejection letter behind it. No info on number of applicants/cohort size.dumbquestionsonly wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 4:50 pmThank you for verifying. Exactly right? I initially intended to apply to Columbia (sometimes round July-August), but then they said that they were not accepting applications for the Math PhD program. In November, when they took a U-Turn, I had already finalized my school-list and so I decided against applying. This would probably be true for quite a few people. So, it might not get as many applications as some of the other Ivies.RunningOutOfHope wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 12:57 pmI would be curious to know how many applicants they end up getting since there was some miscommunication on if they would even accept applications this year, but either way chances for Columbia seem < epsilon.Albert_Eisenstein wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 8:59 amI wouldn't believe that. Hi,dumbquestionsonly wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 9:25 pmUIUC said the first round of acceptances have been released. The contact I wrote to said probably another week before everything is completed.
I think they have already sent out the first round of offersAhmadreza wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 1:33 amHi,dumbquestionsonly wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 9:25 pmUIUC said the first round of acceptances have been released. The contact I wrote to said probably another week before everything is completed.
Do you mean they are going to send out more offers?
The impression I got from the email is that there may actually be more people admitted. I can put the contents here more explicitly. This was sent on Friday.crystal_math wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 1:56 amI think they have already sent out the first round of offersAhmadreza wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 1:33 amHi,dumbquestionsonly wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 9:25 pmUIUC said the first round of acceptances have been released. My friend got rejection. Those should be valid. I've also got nothing tho.smooth_manifold wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 11:02 amIs anyone yet to hear back from Wisconsin? I see some rejections on Gradcafe.
I have heard of places sending out offers in different waves. But this is my first time learning about rejections being sent out in waves. Some 10 rejections so far on Gradcafe, yet no update on my status.kahdk wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 11:12 amMy friend got rejection. Those should be valid. Yeah I am very confused with what's going onsmooth_manifold wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 1:42 pmI have heard of places sending out offers in different waves. Yep, I just got mine via email.
Many institutions send out rejections in waves.smooth_manifold wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 1:42 pmI have heard of places sending out offers in different waves. Want to ask the same thing, didn’t receive an offer or rejection today. This is basically my first choice...smooth_manifold wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 10:16 pmShould we still have hope for Wisconsin? They sent out offers today.
