Well, I know someone who doesn't expect to get into Wisconsin. His GPA and overall profile is not that great and he was rejected from Penn State. Even he hasn't heard back from Wisconsin, so I am not too excited on accounts of not getting rejected. I'm sure there are people here too who are not Wisconsin material and haven't heard back either. We can only wait.SLSC wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 10:19 pmWant to ask the same thing, didn’t receive an offer or rejection today. Apologies if that bums you out, it's just the ugly truth. Wisconsin is much more reputable than Penn State and they get 400+ applicants every year. It's unlikely for someone to get rejected from Penn State and then get into Wisconsin. Even my friend agrees to this part.crystal_math wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 10:53 pmThis is a weird statement. Fair enough, I honestly won’t be too surprised by a rejection either. It’s killing me tho that I’ve only heard back from 5 out of 25ish schools I’ve applied for.smooth_manifold wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 10:33 pmWell, I know someone who doesn't expect to get into Wisconsin. Just received a rejection from Boston University.
Re: Fall 2021 Sweat Thread
Just saw someone got an email about interviews from University of Michigan on grad cafe. I still haven’t heard back yet. It really drives me nuts that I applied for 7 schools and only heard back from 1. Also 6 out of those 7 already sent out some offers. I would rather get a rejection sooner than later.

Q: 156 (59%)
V: 153 (60%)
W: 4.0 (55%)
Program Applying: Pure Math
Research Experience: Presented 3 posters and given a talk recently at a teleconference on mathematical modeling. Taken two classes in independent studies on numerical analysis and random matrix theory, currently working on a graduation project in matrix theory.
Awards/Honors/Recognitions: I've gotten several diversity scholarships to cover my undergraduate tuition. Also a departmental award (roughly adds up to 12k). I have gotten an award for one of my poster but that's only a recognition of sorts and didn't come with any monetary awards or trophy if you get me.
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: I tutor undergraduate in our tutoring lab, mostly calculus and algebra.
Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help: I participated in over 5 in-person conferences and gotten to know many people from around the country. I think some of the professors I've talked to during conferences definitely will remember me. Two of my letter writers know my for quite a while so I should have at least two very strong and personal letters.
Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: I grew up in the hood in a poor family and lived off government assistances (i.e. SNAP, Medicaid, free lunch). My family consistently makes less than 30k and none of my family members have had a college degree. I have gotten fee waivers from all the schools that I am applying to due to low income and being a black male. I made a pretty strong point about being someone from a poor family and being black in America on my statement of purpose, hopefully it helps. I have not yet taken advanced calculus but I have taken one semester abstract algebra, most schools say I am fine and is eligible to apply.

Hello everyone, I just learned that I was waitlisted at Berkeley and UChicago. For those who are accepted but have got better offers and decided firmly not to come to these schools, could you please decline it asap. Those are not my dream schools at first, as I was not expected to get such positive responses from them. But now learning that I might have an epsilon chance, I think I will hope for the best. Thank everyone and stay safe.

The UW acceptances are likely valid. I did not post on grad cafe but I got an acceptance late last night. No word on whether that's all the acceptances, but I'm inferring from the email that they will likely all be sent out by March 1.Silvernuts wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 10:31 amSame question? Of the people who have gotten into University of Washington, what are your specific subfields of interest? I'm curious if UW separates candidates based on subfield interest or if it's only separated based on pure versus applied math.

Anyone knows when Washington University in St Louis will send out results? They have been very quiet and slow.
Re: Fall 2021 Sweat Thread
I poked Washington University in St Louis and this is what they said “The Graduate Committee has ranked the applicants. At the moment first round offers have been sent by the Dean. No applicant has rejected yet. So, we ask that you keep us informed about your status until April 15 in the event you receive another offer.” Apparently they sent out some offers already.

Few weeks ago, UCLA made some offers (and there is also one rejection) according to gradcafe; most of them are made in January, a couple of them in the first week February; including international applicants. If we have not received any e-mail yet, do we still have a chance or does it mean that most probably we are going to be rejected soon? Does anyone know anything about that?
