Hello. Is there any international student who is either selected for Mathematics Foundation Jacques Hadamard (FMJH-Sophie Germain Master's scholarship) or Foundation Sciences Mathematiques de Paris (FSMP) master's fellowship? These are mainly provided for doing mathematics masters in Paris.
Re: Fall 2021 Sweat Thread
Does anyone have information about Stanford? They are so quiet so far I haven't even seen a post on Gradcafe.

Did your email explicitly say "extremely low chance"? Mine said "low chance." I was wondering if they sent the entire waitlist the same waitlist email - I wish they would tell us our ranking on the waitlist.liuluck22 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 19, 2021 1:21 amSame waitlist. Did you attend the visitor's day for Virginia Tech, and could you tell me more about it if you did? Also does not being invited to visitor's day mean I've already been unofficially rejected?

Anyone know about whether Michigan sends out more interviews? The email they sent weeks ago (and their website) says they will send requests from Feb 15 - March 15, and waitlist notifications in late March. Could it be that they're already done? Maybe they're doing it by discipline.

Has anyone heard anything from Toronto. I've only seen a single acceptance on gradcafe and one rejection here. Has anyone reached out to them? Seems like all other Canadian schools (with the exception of UBC) have started making offers.
Re: Fall 2021 Sweat Thread
There's a UCSD acceptance on Gradcafe. Anyone here heard back from them?
Re: 2021 Applicant Profiles and Admissions Results
It hasn't happened yet, so I can't give much info about anything yet, including whether or not it's bad news if you haven't heard. I pretty firmly believe that you can't assume a rejection until you have it in writing- every year here I see people offered spots at the last minute. Good luck with your applications, hope you get some good news soon!

Has anyone in pure math heard from UT Austin? No acceptances on grad cafe, and the only offer I saw in the other thread was applied math. When poked, they said they were still reviewing applications and making offers, and to check back in if I haven't heard by mid-March.

I know it's probably discussed earlier, UChicago and Courant seems to be very quite. I wonder at this point can we assume anything if not heard from Courant and UChicago?
PS: poked UIC. they say first round will be sent by the end of Feb. SUNY said the result will be sent on the first week/second week of Mar

Re: Fall 2021 Sweat Thread
I think Courant has sent out all their first-round offers, which is not a lot. The possibility they may send out more offers occurs when some admitted students decline the offer. They probably have some sort of waiting list on hand now but did not send official waitlist email since they are not taking many students this year and do not know how it will go. Chicago is kind at the same situation, I guess.hormander wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 10:47 pmI know it's probably discussed earlier, UChicago and Courant seems to be very quite. This is precisely what I'm wondering! If they are to be made out on a rolling basis, that must mean that not all invites were sent out in the week of Feb 15th. At least that's what I'm hoping for.dumbquestionsonly wrote: ↑Fri Feb 19, 2021 5:59 pmAnyone know about whether Michigan sends out more interviews? Re: Fall 2021 Sweat Thread
Hi everyone, first-year UT Austin grad here. I just had a friend text me about admissions and whether I knew anything, and I realized y’all were probably sweating without information too. Here’s what I know:
- Math at UT doesn’t do batch admissions. People get emailed individually once the adcom feels very sure about them. They care a lot about fit here and read applications very carefully
- Decisions here come out on the later side even normally, but like I said, very spread out
- Oden admissions probably have no relationship to the regular math department’s admissions in terms of timeline (just my guess based on what I know about the institute—the grad advisor used the words that it has “its own PhD program,” and the fact that Oden is so interdisciplinary means they probably have a totally different adcom.)
- The field is huge this year. About 450 compared to 350 last year. (For perspective, I think my cohort is 18 people, including 2 actuarial master’s students). This will slow things down
- Major consideration: Texas has been having an icepocalypse—classes have been canceled all last week and half of this week, and I feel pretty sure that no meaningful admissions progress has been happening during this time. Admin focus may continue to be a little diverted while getting things back on track for this semester
- We haven’t been notified of dates for prospective student events yet. Earlier in the month, we were asked for input on how we should run them this year, and then the icepocalypse happened. Just another indication things are still very much in process
tl;dr don’t make assumptions based on last year’s timeline, and be patient! Good luck, everyone!

Re: Fall 2021 Sweat Thread
Another thing... I know that admissions season is an incredibly stressful time and that it must be particularly hard in the atmosphere of “everything is different and more competitive cause COVID.” Nothing’s going to make that un-stressful, but I hope y’all are going easy on yourselves mentally in the sense of acknowledging that you’re gonna be a little “off” and that’s ok.
I also know that if you’re lucky enough to have multiple good options, it’s really hard to weigh them under these circumstances. So, if any of you have been admitted to UT Austin or are just really interested, please feel free to ask me stuff! You can also ask me about different schools I considered/visited last year if that might help, though of course I’ll have less perspective on them. I had visits (some virtual) at Duke, UC Davis, Notre Dame, UIC, and of course UT.

Re: Fall 2021 Sweat Thread
This sounds like a bureaucratic thing to me. I typed up a longer explanation, but my browser ate it. Tons of separate offices and funding sources are involved in making offers, and the DGS probably heard from someone at the graduate school/greater university level that something was up in the air, or someone took a much longer time than usual to give them information about how much funding would be available to the math department and in what forms. That stuff is all subject to fluctuation, particularly at times like this when administrators at different levels are inclined to getting spooked about an uncertain future.lebesgueboy98 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 1:34 amThis is very strange.
