Fall 2021 Sweat Thread
Re: Fall 2021 Sweat Thread
Thank you. Do I have a chance to get direct acceptance? Or it's just for the waitlist?
Re: Fall 2021 Sweat Thread
Anyone knows when canadian schools (especially Toronto, UBC, Mcgill) will start sending offers?

For those of you who have gotten Michigan interviews, what are your fields - if you don't mind my asking?

Sorry but I do not know whether it's appropriate to ask here or not, but what does it mean by the prospective student? Does it mean the student got TA/RA offer?
Re: Fall 2021 Sweat Thread
Myself and a few other people I know have had interviews. Seems like they're a bit slow with processing things this year, said we should hear back in 3-4 weeks.

Do you think Canadian Universities also have had an increase in the number of applicants? I ask this especially for the master's program of the University of Toronto.

Re: 2021 Applicant Profiles and Admissions Results
A prospective student is anyone who is considering attending a specific college or university. They don't even have to be an applicant. Technically speaking, "prospective students" are basically "window shoppers." However, in my mind, I usually see "prospective student" and "applicant" as being interchangeable. In other words, if you received an email and they're calling you a prospective student, that doesn't necessarily mean you were given an offer.lingminhao31 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 9:10 amSorry but I do not know whether it's appropriate to ask here or not, but what does it mean by the prospective student? I poked Michigan about interview requests, and they informed me they would start making further notifications soon. They also said most applicants will hear by March 15.

Great question, I don't know. I think it's safe to suspect there will be more interview requests, though, but I don't know for sure.scaredmaths wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 8:00 pmFurther notifications meaning more interview requests, or just rejections?homotopysphere wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 5:10 pmI poked Michigan about interview requests, and they informed me they would start making further notifications soon. those are possibly the ones who applied for Self graduate fellowship ( 31st December deadline ). But the deadline for all the other students was the 31st of January so I am assuming some offers will be made for those who don't qualify for the SGF as well.lapislazur wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 10:11 pmOne of my friends was accepted on January 15th.AnatolyBabakov wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 10:04 pmHave any of you heard back from University of Kansas! Thanks for this information. Do you know, if there were a bunch of rejections sent out earlier for Chicago (anytime from mid Jan to mid Feb)? I don't trust GradCafe and just wanted to know if anyone has received a UChicago rejection as of yet.quanticbolt wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 12:45 pmI poked Chicago: Said they still haven't made any final decisions, so everyone who has not been outright rejected still has a shot. Good luck to everyone.

Does anyone know what is the status of Toronto's PhD program (direct entry)? It has been in the Under Review phase for the past 2 and a half months.

Anyone knows what's up with UCLA and NYU? They made a bunch of offers already. UCLA made its fair share I guess, so a rejection/ waitlist is more likely. But what about NYU? They made offers sometime ago and only gave 2 weeks time to students to accept/ reject (Someone posted about this here)
Re: Fall 2021 Sweat Thread
Same for me. From what I've heard, they accept few international students and tend to ghost people.Albert_Eisenstein wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 12:06 amDoes anyone know what is the status of Toronto's PhD program (direct entry)? It has been in the Under Review phase for the past 2 and a half months.

That’s strange. This cycle might cause a greater delay for Toronto. We’ll probably have to wait till March end.sz9232 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 1:47 amSame for me. Yeah I think it's a Canadian school thing. One of the schools I applied to explicitly mentioned they will ghost you:sz9232 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 1:47 amSame for me. Guess it couldn't hurt to send an email an ask. Good luck to you guys though.

Fwiw, Toronto has been awfully quiet on the domestic side as well. I think they mean to release the majority of decisions in March from what I have heard. I guess we'll see.
Re: Fall 2021 Sweat Thread
I think NYU is done with first wave of offers. I got it and was invited to the Open House already. But waitlists are possible as I didn't see anyone waitlisted by NYU on gradcafe or here.smooth_manifold wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 1:26 amAnyone knows what's up with UCLA and NYU? Is anyone else planning to attend Ohio State? They were to inform us about fellowship decisions by now, but I haven't heard back yet. Did anyone else get the fellowship, the one which is for first year only and waives students of any TA duties.

I'm not sure I completely understand your question, but from what I can gather: no there's not acceptance or increased acceptance probability implied if you receive an invitation to a virtual visit of the uni, a Q&A event, etc. Pretty much the only two things that are definitive indicators of your chance at being accepted are interviews and official/unofficial acceptance emails.lingminhao31 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 2:00 pmIf it is a prospective student where the university invites you to visit their campus? That's not true, they give until April 15th to accept just like everywhere else.smooth_manifold wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 1:26 amAnyone knows what's up with UCLA and NYU? Nice! My alma mater. Not a huge research scene in math there but the dept is filled with some of the most down-to-earth and accomplished professors I've ever met (I transferred). You can tell they truly love it there and many of them are really passionate about teaching, which you can't take for granted. Huge graduate student body as well, lots of events for grad students. Only negative is the housing situation is really really bad. GL, hope you get in!

Ok, NYU update: they said that they made almost all decisions and don’t plan on many more offers. FYI - >600 applications, don’t know much more.

Re: Fall 2021 Sweat Thread
I saw an acceptance to Northeastern on Gradcafe, and they mentioned that Northeastern is requiring a response by April 1st. That seems awfully strange, and I was wondering if anyone had any information about that?
Re: Fall 2021 Sweat Thread
That was just what my letter said (twice). I was surprised too. I have no more information. Probably they will allow an extension if needed.iliketopology wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 4:09 pmI saw an acceptance to Northeastern on Gradcafe, and they mentioned that Northeastern is requiring a response by April 1st. Re: Fall 2021 Sweat Thread
From what I know, Brown has already made their decisions. You could definitely ask DGS for an update on your application. But in my opinion, if you haven't heard anything by now, your application probably has already been denied and the system is generating a generic rejection letter.anynonymous_ferret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 2:47 pmI know I am the n+1th person to ask this, but are they any updates for UCLA? I can verify this because I got their letter as well.
