Good Probability Grad Schools

Post by dharmeshg » Wed Dec 16, 2020 1:17 pm

Hi All,

I have a Bachelors Mathematics 3 yrs international degree and interested in Pure Math/Probability. I have a couple of questions:

Is it a good idea to apply for Master's or directly to Ph.D.?
Which schools have a good probability department?

thanks,

That depends on what you want, how competitive you are, and your readiness in terms of math foundation.

Someone here that does probability can probably answer that. Or better yet - ask your professor that does probability.

MIT, NYU Courant, Stanford, Columbia, Berkeley, and UChicago are some of the best. Princeton and Harvard are obviously good but I only know of one major probability person at each. Some other good places are UCLA, Wisconsin, Duke, Michigan, Cornell, and UVA.
