Big names in PDEs

Hi all!

I have already applied to some of the Top 50 institutes that do some theoretical PDEs. But on a recent post of mine, I heard about Andrea R. Nahmod who is at UMass Amherst and is quite famous for her work in non-linear PDEs. Since UMass Amherst is not in the top 20, I would have totally missed out on applying to it.

I am wondering if there are more schools that are not ranked that high but have some big names in the field of PDEs? Does anyone know of any such school and a faculty there?

I would really appreciate any help. Cheers!

Update: The only unis in the top 50 I applied to who do theoretical PDEs besides the top 20 are: UIUC, Wisconsin, UCSD, and UCSB.

From what I remember UCLA, NYU, Brown's Applied Math, MiT, Columbia, UCSD, CMU, and UNC had a lot of faculty members doing PDEs. I think Carniege faculty all seems pretty new, but they seem to have a very people in PDE in their department.

Are you only interested in theoretical PDEs? I know of some people who do very advanced work in mathematical physics and numerical PDEs... probably not as theoretical as you'd prefer, but just a thought.

Mathematical physics sounds good too. Unfortunately, I'm not not into the numerical aspects. Could you please name some people you know who do Mathematical physics?
I think Gigliola Staffilani (MIT) does some awesome stuff in PDEs with some physics applications (Schrödinger equation etc.) then you have Andrew Lawrie (MIT) as well. Needless to say, MIT has great people in PDEs and mathematical physics. I know there are also people at Princeton. University of Washington and Minnesota I have heard have good PDE and math/physics people.

Have you considered U Maryland? They have a large department and many professors doing research on PDE.

See https://www-math.umd.edu/research/facul ... rests.html

You still have time to apply their deadline is January 5, 2021.
