This page can be devoted to Yale University. What is their math/applied math program like? There are some major researchers there and needless to say it is a good place. Anyone know anything about their programs?

I applied to Yale too, and I was wondering specifically about the culture in their graduate program. As found at https://public.tableau.com/views/YaleGr ... VizHome=no (and similarly for applied math), the grad student population is overwhelming male, even more than typical. Does anyone know more about this?

At an open house for a different school last year, I heard several people who were undergrads there say that the culture in the department is terrible. Here (https://yaledailynews.com/blog/2017/10/ ... imbalance/) is one article about it.

Interesting good to know. If I get admitted to math program at Yale I know how it will be only if I visit, which sadly won't probably happen this year with Covid-19. I have heard that their applied math program, overwhelmingly male too, is much better atmosphere than math program however. Any ideas of this?

The math department is also very small. You have to like it to go there.

As far as I am aware, Wilhelm Schlag is the only faculty member who does hard analysis (eg harmonic analysis and PDEs). One of my letter writers who works in the field mentioned to me something to the effect of “I would not wish working with Schlag on my worst enemies,” so not a very pleasant person from what I’ve heard.
