Need preprints or publications for graduate admissions?

Post by jalgebra » Thu Nov 11, 2021 4:29 pm

Hello! I am a senior applying for PhD programs in mathematics for Fall 2022. One interesting thing about my application is, even though I have a few reasonably top REUs, I so far have no preprints or publications. However, I have a few really strong papers on the way expected to be ready sometime next year. Is there a big disadvantage to have no preprints, but strong ones on the way versus actual preprints? I do not want admissions to think no preprints is a sign I cannot produce research. Keep in mind, I am applying to top programs. Also, can I just explain in my personal statement that they are on the way? Is that believable enough?
Thanks!

You can mention the preprint in your SOP. If they are on arxiv maybe put the link on your CV
