Has Irvine sent out any acceptances? I've seen some rejections on gradcafe but not sure if it's true.
I know someone who have heard back from them unofficially

Why does it seem that schools send out decisions roughly in the order of rankings?
Is it so that they can have higher yielding rate? Anyways, I guess early rejections from these higher ranked schools are not a good sign.

In the hopes that people accepted from higher ranked schools will withdraw their application to lower ranked schools

Does that mean Irvine is done/mostly done sending offers? I haven't heard anything yet and another person I know hasn't gotten anything either. We're both hoping that we'll be accepted later or on the waitlist together lol.

Is it necessary to decline offers very quickly? I haven't made a decision yet, but I also feel bad because I want them to be able to offer the spot to someone else.

Within reason it's probably fine. It's not like universities don't have explicit or implicit waitlists, so declining your offer later will still give the slot to someone else. Admittedly delaying this needlessly is a bit rude to someone who may be anxiously waiting, but I don't think anyone would say "reject asap even if you're not sure that you don't want the offer." That's just ridiculous

What does it mean when a prof tells they've contacted adcom and hope they have a place for me?

I'm not sure, it's just someone I know and see often but don't know particularly well (classmate).

I saw a couple Berkeley acceptances and rejections, if you received a decision may I know where do you see them?

My email was stuck in outlook's "spam quarantine" so you might have to visit it to "release" the email into your inbox, if your school or email provider uses office365.

Also, Brown did not send me an email at all, just a silent rejection. I only realized I was denied when I check portal. so check your portal often too

What do y'all think about the funding is that even enough for San Fransisco?

Assuming without nsf grfp or any other fellowships - it should be sufficient. But fosho you are not going to live like a king.

How do you like the program so far and do you mind telling me your current budget/expense or any other helpful tips?

It seems some schools last year are willing to reverse a reject decision after applicants got NSF GRFP. Is this true for most programs or just a select few?

So has Northwestern sent out acceptances? I saw two people received emails to chat over Zoom but I wasn't sure if they sent out first round offers or if a professor is just singling people out he/she wants to work with.

What's the general consensus on getting rejected from the PhD but accepted for a Masters? Worthwhile to pursue if no other better options, or just a cash-grab from the uni and better to wait for next cycle?

I'm no expert, but my thinking would heavily depends on so many factors. If you wanna go to a top school, but your undergrad wasn't good enough, masters is probably the best option by far. If you're ok with aiming lower and wanna save the money/don't have the money, then reapplying might be better. It probably is a cash grab from the uni, but that doesn't mean it doesn't help some people. Maybe you do the masters and decide you don't wanna continue as well. For full disclosure, I'm graduating with my masters albeit from a 4 year dual masters/bachelors program.

Have the money + want a stronger app = maybe masters
anything else = maybe just reapply

How is everyone doing emotionally with all the decisions that have come out so far? I'm still waiting on my top choice and the anxiety is killing me.

I have only heard back from one school and it was an acceptance, so I guess I'm doing pretty good. Pretty sure I'm gonna get ghosted/rejected by at least 2-4 schools already and am expecting more to come. If ASU is the only school I get into, I will be very happy to attend (the weather will suck tho).

I also want to add that you could spend your gap year conducting research with faculty from your undergrad until the next cycle to build up your application. Assuming you live with your parents and/or have a relatively easy job on the side, you could probably do several research projects at once to get a publication or two all without paying for a master's degree. This obviously hinges on if you can find willing faculty and if you're able to get meaningful results.

Tbh, this is also a solid choice if the master's program costs too much but if you can afford it, I definitely agree with @fakeName's recommendation in taking up the master's degree.

Yeah I've crawled through the past couple years of data on this forum it seems that is somewhat true, which make sense the schools are literally paying nothing for the first 3 years, and if the students can't keep up, they get kicked out for qualifying/comprehensive exam.

So that leads to the question, how competitive is it and what's a typical profile of whom got it?

It's not extremely competitive, but luck does play a factor unless you're IMO gold medal + Putnam Fellow + Fulbright + etc etc etc

It's like applying to another tier 1 school, you just don't know what to expect but extrapolating probably mostly VGs and couple Es

This

It's a combination of luck (reviewer) and your profile strength as everything is. The stronger your profile the less luck play its part, as usual.

Chances are excellent if you get above VG on average but another reviewer might give you just enough downgrades (VG instead of E, G instead of VG) that you miss the mark

Got contacted about scheduling a fairly brief (15 min) interview with Stony Brook for a pure math PhD... does anyone know what these usually entail?? I'm pretty nervous.

I did, but I don't feel super confident in my application. If nothing else, it was a good experience and was helpful because it forced me to have some ideas prepared for my application personal statements early.

Not OP, but also got an interview invite. The possible interview dates were given Tuesday-Friday, so the outcome of these interviews will probably come out sometime next week (at least guessing from other posts I have seen on this thread)?

Also (if it's not already obvious) when comparing offers between schools make sure to take into account the cost of living.

Things like rent, health insurance payments/tuition fees (if any), renters/auto insurance, income tax etc.
i.e. 30k a year in Boston or the bay area is probably a much tighter budget than 30k a year in say State College or Columbus.
But I seldom heard any state college would provide a 30k per year stipend. But it's common for schools in UC system or Boston area to give that much salary. BTW, is it possible to work as a grader instead of TA? I think that grading is more flexible in schedule and saves time for transportation.

Hoping you hear some good news about your applications soon :( honestly, finding things to occupy my time with so that I'm not anxiously refreshing forums or my email has helped me a lot. I work two full-time jobs and being preoccupied with them has (normally) forced me to stressing about my applications.

How many schools are you guys still waiting to hear from? I have 3 pending decisions to go. One of them is my top choice and I would pick over my current offers so I feel nervous about that one.

Hmm I'm waiting on USC and Rice. I know both sent out some offers already so I think I'm either on the waitlist or getting rejected lol, but I'm happy with the other schools I've gotten responses from so far. But yeah the anxiety induced from waiting can be really hard to deal with.

4 for any kind of update, 1 for the results of an interview. I applied to 8 schools in total.

I am still waiting to hear from 9 schools (I applied to 16 total). Though I have been interviewed for one school, and I was told that result would be coming soon (said a few days after I had my interview on Friday). I would just like to have an acceptance (or if they are all rejections, I would like to know sooner rather than later).

How many schools are you guys still waiting to hear from? I have 3 pending decisions to go. One of them is my top choice and I would pick over my current offers so I feel nervous about that one.
8 for me, 4 of which haven't sent out any decisions so far. I've applied to 13 total and have received 4 rejections and a waitlist, so am hoping for some positive news soon.

When is a good time to email the adcoms about our application status? Not sure if this is recommended since I've heard of people being auto-rejected for asking this question...

I highly doubt anyone was rejected solely because they asked this question. The programs probably had ruled them out of the decision making process at that point but had not yet sent out an official rejection letter if they were still finalizing the actual offers. Unless they were extremely rude in the email or the program instructed them not to do it, it's probably just a minor annoyance for most programs.

Hmm I'm waiting on USC and Rice. I know both sent out some offers already so I think I'm either on the waitlist or getting rejected lol, but I'm happy with the other schools I've gotten responses from so far. But yeah the anxiety induced from waiting can be really hard to deal with.
I will be rejecting USC soon. The stipend there isn't very good imo, though.

2 reject out of 8, also bad signs like no interview invitation/not in the first wave from 4 other. Honestly don't have much hope left for this year

Waiting to hear from 5 out of 11. Of these 5, have almost no hopes from 3 since they have already made offers and/or conducted interviews where I was obviously not invited. One of them, upon inquiry, told me the obvious thing that "admissions decisions will be finalized by April 15, 2022". In short, I feel doomed and terribly scared!
