I saw on Gradcafe some decisions made on Feb 12, are they really making decisions over the weekend?

I got the acceptance email on Friday night.

Did the email have any information relevant to other candidates ?
One of the result submitted on gradcafe said “ generic rejection email. Noted over 600 applicants.” I am not sure about the over 600 applicants part.

Do you think the people who haven't heard back yet are getting ghosted? I only applied because I have family who went there and they paid for my application fee. I am absolutely expecting a rejection lol.

Wouldn't it be more likely that we're in their maybe pile? As far as I know, no one has said they've been waitlisted, so the fact that we've heard nothing probably indicates we're effectively waitlisted. Maybe we'll get rejected or accepted or an official waitlist notification.

I’m not sure. Last year, they sent out a wave of acceptances and a wave of rejections on the same day, and then another wave of rejections with a few waitlists 2 days later.

I have seen a lot of schools that completely ghosted all the way through late April. Not every department has a "waitlist".

Yep the email mentioned that over 600 applicants had been received.

They have a waitlist. I got accepted Friday evening and the last sentence of the email reads, "In particular, if you decide to accept an offer from another program, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can admit students off of our waitlist." So, not all hope is lost!
