Statistics, Work Experience and the GRE Math Subject Exam

Hey ladies and gents,
I'm considering applying to a number of statistics PhD programs since one of my interests is probability and mathematical finance. I ultimately, of course, plan on going into academia. I was wondering what the needed GRE math subject score for a top stats program is. I'm aware stats programs don't require it, but only recommend taking it. I was also wondering if work experience helps with stats programs. There is a chance I'll be working for a prestigious consulting firm doing statistics for the next year.
