First Undergrad Institution: U.S. Tiny Liberal Arts
Major(s): Mathematics, Computer Science
Minor(s): N/A
GPA: Quite literally failing
Math GPA: Quite literally failing

Current Undergrad Institution (transferred): U.S. Big State School, top 30 for math
Major(s): Mathematics
Minor(s): N/A
GPA: Not failing
Math GPA: Not failing

Type of Student: Domestic, Male, White, First-gen

Program Applying: Pure Mathematics PhD, want to focus on number theory (but I also have an interest in algebraic topology and theoretical computer science).

Research Experience: One publication, one good REU, several papers submitted to journals and the pre-prints are on the arXiv, and several papers are in progress. Senior thesis is original research in number theory, in progress.
Awards/Honors/Recognitions: A couple of decent scholarships, research fellowships, research travel grants!
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Tutored and TA'ed Calculus, Lin Alg, intro Comp Sci, advanced Comp Sci, and intro Physics courses - had a lot of fun doing it, too!
Math Courses Taken: 15+ graduate courses (Topology, Diff Geo, Algebra, AG, Alg Top, Combinatorics).
Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help: First-gen college student, immigrant family background, transferred to pursue mathematics specifically, hopefully fantastic recommendations! I have lots of talks as well at different seminars and conferences. My uni doesn't have any number theory so hopefully me getting involved in number theory outside of uni (through my REU, through conferences) demonstrates that I am extremely serious about it.

Might as well put this up.

Undergrad: Top UK university for maths
Masters: Part III maths at Cambridge
Major(s): Mathematics (technically "Pure Mathematics" at Cambridge)
Minor(s): N/A
GPA: High(?) First Class in my undergrad
Type of Student: International (UK) White Male

GRE Revised General Test: Not taking, not required at any school I've applied to
GRE Subject Test in Mathematics: Ditto

Program Applying: PhD Math, looking to specialise in functional analysis or something closely related (eg. spectral theory, harmonic analysis on locally compact groups, etc.)

Research Experience: Not really research per se but did a project on Leray-Hopf solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations as part of my undergrad (not original, more of a survey). Doing Part III essay on computational spectral theory.
Awards/Honors/Recognitions: None since high school (one of the downsides of small fish big pond)
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: I wrote much of ProofWiki's coverage of functional analysis and measure theory. Competed in a small inter-university integration competition this year and plan on helping coordinate next year's.
Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help: My coursework is probably the strongest thing about my application. (if it even matters much) Grad-level courses would be three courses in functional analysis going up to C* algebras & Borel functional calculus and another course "Unbounded Operators and Semigroups", manifolds, analytic theory of PDEs, non-linear analysis, commutative algebra, measure theory, 2x measure-theoretic probability, stochastic calculus. Otherwise decent mix of undergrad courses, courses in groups/rings, linear algebra, real/complex/multivariable analysis, point-set topology, basic non-Euclidean geometry, number theory, set theory, logic and a first course in undergrad statistics. My last year was slightly disappointing (had issues with insomnia around exams) with a few 2:1s but still did fairly well. (my overall grade is mid 80s) I'm hoping two of my letters will be glowing, the third might be a bit flat.
Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: Unsure, both my undergrad and masters are big names. Shouldn't mean much but might do.

Applying to where
Super-Reach
Berkeley - rejected 14/02 (obviously)
Princeton - rejected 03/02

Non Super-Reach
UIUC - rejected 16/03 - really sucks, was top realistic US choice :/ happy with the offer I have though
Purdue - accepted 10/02 with $21,689.00 funding in Y1 + $1,689.00 medical - fees, declined, sent me a rejection letter?? 04/05 lmao. Guess it's an automated thing
UW Madison - rejected 20/02 - disappointing, apparently 600 applicants. Probably the first rejection I'm disappointed with.
Texas A&M - Howdy portal says "admission offered" but nothing on funding 15/02 (worth noting for future years: I didn't submit a GRE score despite being "required" on the website), official offer 22/02, declined
Virginia - unofficial acceptance 18/02, official offer 20/02 with $24k funding + $6k possible summer support, declined
Washington University St. Louis - rejected 12/04

UK options
Rough order of preference
Cambridge - attended interview 18/01, UNOFFICIAL ACCEPTANCE WITH FUNDING 26/01. Formal offer 03/02, ATTENDING
Oxford - invited to interview 23/01, attended 01/02 Offer 24/02, declined
Glasgow - attended interview 13/01, Offer 10/02, funding yet to be confirmed, declined
Lancaster - invited to interview 24/01, attended on 01/02, funded offer 13/01, declined
Leeds - invited to interview 25/01, attended 31/01, Offer 17/02, funding yet to be confirmed, declined
KCL - withdrawn, invited to interview 21/02 (guess it didn't go through), withdrawn again
Nottingham - rejected 23/02 ??? lmfao. Told it was an error 05/05, asked me if I wanted to revive my application, declined.

27/01: I will likely just attend Cambridge since I'm quite enthusiastic about the project, and it's very broad so I have very little risk of getting stuck on something I don't like. (I can do pretty much anything in applied analysis) First decision too, bit stunned.

29/01: I decided I will attend these interviews, just in case a random act of God occurs before I get an official notification. Also gives me some interview experience.

TOEFL Score: (xx = Rxx/Lxx/Sxx/Wxx) (if applicable) NOT APPLICABLE

Program Applying: Pure Math

Research Experience: Completed a summer research program at my school with my algebra professor. Did an "online REU" which is basically a short paper proving a topology theorem and its prerequisites (it seems most of my peers did something similar). Currently working on a senior thesis in topology.
Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Couple scholarships from high school as well as university and departmental scholarships. I've only gotten zeros on Putnam so I didn't put that down
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Tutored college algebra to calculus 2.

Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help: Female? I think my letter should be decent if not strong. Participated in couple AWM meetings. Volunteered for departmental math events. I studied very hard for the GRE math subject test, I did all the exercises in schaum's outline of calculus + differential equations and stewart's calculus at least twice. I'm glad it paid off.

Undergrad Institution: Low Tier State School
Major(s): Mathematics
Minor(s): Music
GPA: 3.99
Math GPA: 4.00
Type of Student: DWM

GRE Revised General Test:
Q: 169 (94%)
V: 163 (92%)
W: 4.5 (54%)
GRE Subject Test in Mathematics:
M: Update: got extremely sick the weekend of the test, tried to take it, ended up going to urgent care for the worst fever i've had in years.

Program Applying: Pure

Research Experience: Multiyear research project in structural graph theory at home institution. Summer research (ongoing) in combinatorics abroad with a relatively well-known professor. Neither are strong enough to publish yet unfortunately.
Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Top undergrad in Math (2021-2022), decent Putnam score (not breaking top 500 though - gonna actually study and try to break top 500 this year though as opposed to previous ones), honors at BSM, full-ride scholarship money here (it's why i came although i regret it now tbh), university-level nominee for Goldwater 2021 (didn't win nationally)
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Tutored Cal 1-3, SAT, ACT, GRE for 1 year
Math Courses Taken:
Undergraduate: Cal 1-3, Lin Alg, Higher Lin Alg, Abstract Algebra, Group Theory, DE, Complex Analysis, Real Analysis, Graph Theory, Discrete Mathematics, Geometry (a cool historical course that went through Euclid's axioms, would recommend), Statistics, Data Analytics.
Graduate: Advanced Combinatorics, Combinatorics Topics Course, Real Analysis I and II. Two research seminars under different professors
Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help: One of my letters whom I've done research under is sort of well-known and has connections with certain researchers working in combinatorics. Wasted some time on a music double major, turned into a minor; should've just taken a bunch of math grad courses instead. You live and you learn.
Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: Nothing really. I've got some like service stuff, but it's all from being an accompanist for the university jazz band.

Applying to Where:

Top Choices:
UIUC - Not invited to Open House (02/22/2023), rejected via email (03/16/23)
UIC- Emailed on Jan 28th by directors of graduate coordinators, admitted (mid-February) 31,250 per year TA position (with summer work)
Ohio State- rejected
UCSD - rejected
Georgia Tech ACO - rejected
Minnesota Twin Cities - waitlisted (02/16/23) (told I was a high ranking alternate; this could just be their way of putting people down softly about their position on the waitlist); admitted to master's (02/16/23)
UNC - Chapel Hill - not invited to grad student weekend (likely rejected) (no response yet upon inquiry) (expecting rejection)
Emory - Interview on Jan 30th (emailed on Jan 26th) rejected Feb 13th
Rochester - admitted 20k TA+health insurance (Feb 24th) declined
Rutgers - email from grad director upon inquiry "there is a possibility but chances are not high" (waitlisted but expecting rejection) emailed odds are low just gonna say this one's a reject
Michigan State University - emailed and asked to complete my application by the graduate coordinator (late)
admitted with fellowship (Feb 21st) declined
Good but idk if I want to go there due to professors' interests:
Rice - rejected (02/08/2023) (however, application was incomplete because one professor didn't submit their letter)
Texas A&M - submitted (idk what to expect)

Undergrad Institution: Top Public
Major(s): Mathematics
GPA: 3.9
Masters Institution: HYPSM
Major(s): Computational Math
GPA: In Progress
Type of Student: Domestic Male
GRE Revised General Test: 169/157/4.5

Program Applying: Applied Mathematics and Computational Math Programs (PhD)

Research Experience: Scattered experiences across national research (x2), university research (x3), and industry research (x1) - all numerical method and high performance computing research projects. Mostly "implementation" projects, no publications unfortunately.
Awards/Honors/Recognitions: standard GPA and honor society awards
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Course staff at universities Graduate Data Analy (Head TA x1, TA x1), Parallel Programming (TA x1 - fully funded position), Complex (Grader x2), Math Methods (Grader x2). Research jobs listed above. Started web development club in ugrad
Important Courses Taken: (Finished) Num PDES (intro + advanced), Num LinAlg, PDEs, Parallel Prog (intro + advanced), Complex Analy, Real Analy, Number Theory, FEM, Fluid Instabilities, Math Methods, Modeling and Simulation, Databases, ML; (Planned) Stochastics, Optimization, Algorithms
Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help: LOR (NASA Supervisor, Head TA Supervisor, Num PDEs Prof, TBD another if I gain enough repertoire with current research supervisor before apps are due) Num PDEs prof is a pretty big name.

Comments/Notes: Second time around! Back to back applications are tiring me haha. Had some offers from the list last year, but some will be direct reapplications aswell. Star on Stanford since that would be an internal petition rather than a normal cycle application (would be initiated in March 2023).

Side note, Stanford MechE indicated that current MS students, if we have a professor who is willing to provide us research funding, can fill out a form to directly add the MechE PhD program - the professor I am doing research with here is in MechE, so considering it.

Type of Student: Domestic White Male

GRE Revised General Test:
Didn't take.
GRE Subject Test in Mathematics:
M: 830 (81%)
I only sent this to Rutgers, since they strongly recommended it.

Program Applying: Pure math

Research Experience: Worked on a data project summer after freshmen year, worked on a small abstract algebra project on rings and categories summer after junior year, working on a Bachelor's essay now related to Morita Theory. We're looking to get a paper out of the recent summer project. Presented at some poster sessions my school has held.
Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Named outstanding math student every year + given department's best student award sophomore year.
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Tutored at on-campus tutoring center for 2+ years, TA for statistical methods course and a "math for the liberal arts" type course.
Math Courses Taken: Two semesters of undergraduate algebra and real analysis, advanced linear algebra, (graduate course but mostly computational, little theory) PDE, complex analysis, two semesters of statistics learning, first semester of graduate algebra, independent studies in topology and category theory, taking measure theory and mathematical statistics now.
Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help:
Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: I've only officially taken two graduate courses, but my school essentially prevented me from taking any more. Office of FinAid claimed they wouldn't count towards scholarship requirements so I could only take graduate courses if I was also taking 15 hours of undergraduate courses that same semester.

Applying to Where:
UVA Waitlisted on 3/6. Rejected 4/14
Rutgers Waitlisted by inquiry. Position on waitlist is such that is is "unclear" whether or not they'll be able to make an offer of admission. Presumably rejected, haven't reached out to ask.
UIUC Rejected 3/16
NC State: Admitted on 1/25. Declined.

GRE Subject Test in Mathematics:
M: 720 (60%) ouch...

TOEFL Score: N/A

Program Applying:
Pure Math Ph.D.

Research Experience: 3 REUs and 2 small projects with a prof at my school. The small projects didn't result in anything. One of my REUs resulted in a publication in a professional journal (a good one I think) and I presented the work of another one of my REUs at a conference. I will be doing a poster presentation for my most recent REU this winter.
Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Dean's list, semester honors, and a couple smaller departmental scholarships. I've also got a pretty big merit based scholarship from my school.
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: I've done over 100 hours of tutoring for calculus, analysis, linear algebra, and abstract algebra.
Math Courses Taken: Quite a few. Almost all of the upper division math courses offered at my school plus a couple grad courses, including one that is attached to a qual. I've taken the honors versions of any math course that I could.
Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help: I think my rec letters will be pretty strong. One is coming from a prof who's had me for an upper division course and a grad course (I ask a lot of questions in class and show up to office hours frequently, so I shouldn't get a generic letter), and the other two are research mentors that were very happy with my work. My subject GRE is pretty bad but thankfully I only have to submit it to a couple schools. I'm hoping that my high GPA coming from a well-known university will make up for it.
Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: I speak 3 languages and am starting to be proficient in a 4th.

i. Completed 2 REUs in algebraic geometry and commutative algebra in which I basically did summary projects for known original theorems.
ii. Coauthored/ing one paper in algebraic geometry pending publication (finishing up, it's been accepted just minor edits)
iii. Working on a graduation thesis in algebraic geometry with a very minor original result, was told I can probably turn it into a publication later if desired.
Awards/Honors/Recognitions:
Nothing worth mentioning given how competitive and insanely brilliant some of my colleagues are.
Pertinent Activities or Jobs:
Graded for a calculus course that's pretty much it, in terms of "mathematical job" goes
Math Courses Taken:
Linear algebra, ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations, algebra (3 semesters), commutative algebra, algebraic geometry, real analysis (3 semesters), functional analysis, fourier analysis, complex analysis, topology, algebraic topology (2 semesters), differential geometry, differential topology, 3 topics courses (number theory, algebraic geometry, differential geometry), problem solving seminars (3 semesters).
Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help:
I know the terminology "big names" or "well-known" might be vague (not well-defined), but I know all 3 of my letter writers are AMS fellows, and one of them have written a recognized field-specific textbook that some of us probably heard of (for instance, Serre, Milne, Hartshorne, Stein, Lee, etc).
Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter:
I was qualified for the usamo 3 times and made top 16 in my senior year of high school though I never made it to imo. I did also obtained double digit scores in Putnam but never made it to honorable mentions or fellows. I guess good but not good enough.

update -
i received lots of messages asking me to decline offers and asking for advice as to how to improve your applications, im sorry if i missed your email or didn't response to all your questions (longer emails are harder to remember what to reply)

i think having LORs from famous mathematician helps, but only if they are substantial/nontrivial - for instance, a letter from terence tao saying 'this student showed up for every class and got an A" is probably much less helpful than a LOR from a much less-known professor who knows you well and supervised your undergrad thesis or research project. having an ivy degree helps obviously but try to do well on the math GREs and get 85%+ especially if youre applying to top10 schools

Grad Institution: One of the best in India

GRE Revised General Test: Did not take
GRE Subject Test in Mathematics: Had planned to take, but ETS messed up. No worries most places aren't considering it.

TOEFL Score: (115 = R29/L29/S29/W28)

Program Applying: (Pure) Mathematics PhD, focusing on Functional Analysis and Operator Theory

Research Experience: Have 4 reading projects,1 in Complex Analysis the rest in Operator Theory. 3 of them spanning a semester, 1 was a summer project.

Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Ranked 48 (out of ~15000) in a National Entrance Test for Master's in Mathematics, Ranked 217 (~out of 31000) in Math in a National Fellowship Eligibility Test

Math Courses Taken: 15+ courses in Undergrad, 15+ in Grad. Grad Courses include Measure Theory, Topology, Multivariable Calculus, Functional Analysis, Field and Galois Theory, Partial Differential Equations, Fourier Analysis, Operator Theory, NM for PDE, Optimization

Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help: I've done reading projects with 3 of my Recommenders - who are well known in India in the field. I'm not sure internationally it would matter, though. Generally picking the main 2 out of them who know me well, and one Prof from my Bachelor's who taught me in 5 courses (Though she doesn't have a PhD). Places that accept 4 I'll submit all of them.

Don't really have opportunities to TA much in India. No awards or anything really apart from my exam results, my SOP is all about my research projects.

Edit:(6th April) Really bummed about the WashU rejection, although they did say in Feb that they've sent first round offers and unlikely to send more. More or less Florida is decided then.

Edit: Florida swooped in to add $3k funding in the first year, and I've accepted. UF it is!

I just submitted my Johns Hopkins app but the checklist shows the mGRE score as "awaiting", like it's a necessary component of the application that needs to be submitted before it will be reviewed. However, it's optional/not required for 2023 admissions, according to their website. Did anyone contact them about this?

I emailed them a big ago about it. Since it is optional, they need it to display on the checklist for those who did include it. Because of that, it appears on everyone’s checklist. Don’t worry if it is awaiting and you chose not to submit a score.

Undergrad Institution: garbage state school
Major(s): CS
Minor(s): N/A
GPA: 4.00
Math GPA: 4.00
Type of Student: DWM

GRE Revised General Test:
Q: 170
V: 161
W: don't remember
GRE Subject Test in Mathematics:
M: 890 (89%)

Also got master's (4.00 GPA as well) at ~T20 (according to US news and the shanghai one) institution (in my current field of interest) since my undergrad prep was nowhere near enough

Research Experience: Publication nobody cares about, AMS special session conference talk, REU. I have some other pointless experiences that I didn't even bother mentioning but are in my CV
Awards/Honors/Recognitions: None
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: I was a grader once
Math Courses Taken: Usual graduate courseload + some additional geometry stuff
Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help: Passed a qual? Wrote some solution manuals for textbooks? IDK if this stuff really even matters
Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: I'm basically applying to moonshot schools because I've talked to many many professors at my current institution and they all basically said I'm guaranteed into the PhD program here. Full disclosure, I'm absolutely expecting to get rejected everywhere else. I really love my current program and have a potential advisor so I'm not even sure I'd leave it if I did get accepted to other places. It's also a really good program tbh and might be better than some of the "moonshot" places I'm applying to. If I actually end up getting rejected from my current program I'll use that as a sign to pursue something else.

Applying to Where:

All pure math PhD

Reach:

Minnesota - waitlisted by email (2/16) rejected by email (4/18)
Michigan - rejected by email (3/21)
Stony Brook - rejected by email (3/6)
Johns Hopkins - rejected by email (2/8)
UNC - rejected by email (4/18)

Match:

Where I am right now - unofficial acceptance (2/20) official acceptance! (2/23)

(3/2) - Seems like everything is going as expected with the exception of UMN throwing me a lifeline.
(3/21) - Michigan and Stony Brook finally rejected me.
(4/3) - UMN is extremely unlikely; according to their statistics, they have 60 admits and 21 matriculations already. I personally know people who have gotten off the waitlist (and declined), so this number is even a lower bound. Based on previous years' results and the sheer number of people who are on the waitlist this year, it seems almost impossible that I get admitted. However, at this point, I am so happy with my current project that I would seriously consider declining anyways.
(4/18) - That's it for me.

Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: Didn't have time to apply to many programs last year, got rejected from everywhere. The programs that I applied to last year: Michigan, Princeton(ORFE), Toronto, Northwestern(operations research), NYU, University of Oslo, Uppsala, Bonn, ETH Zurich. Got rejected after interview at the European programs, except Bonn. Didn't have much time to apply this year too and missed the deadline on programs at california area etc. My advisor is well known in his field, and writes a decent (maybe strong? but not John Nash tier or anything) letter. There were some close calls as in Oslo, but they took only one student out of 94 applicants. My summer internship supervisor got her PhD at Princeton ORFE and told me that I should apply to such high level programs because she believes I'm read for it (got rejected anyway). Mentally not feeling well, last year destroyed my desire to do mathematics not sure why I am even applying this year. Thought I had good background and relevant research experience but I guess my undergrad GPA is a dealkiller for the level of programs that I want to attend to combined with only 1 potentially strong letter out of 3 is not enough to cut it as I'm from relatively unknown place. I only did research with my advisor so it is not possible for me to get good letter from other people (some sunk cost fallacy here, I wish I did research under some other people too).

Math Courses Taken: Mathematical Logic (4 semesters), Set Theory (3 semesters), Seminar on the Philosophy of Mathematics (Two semesters), and Seminar on the History of Mathematics (Two semesters).
Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: Did my writting sample in a rush, it's 15 pages long and some parts are crazy talk. I was going to finish my four year degree in three years but I decided to travel Europe for a couple of months, now I'm failing my Analysis II course and might not graduate in time.

Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help: Two letters from my advisors at the current program (both of them graduated from MIT, one of them is very well-known in the field, and the other one is still working with his advisors at MIT). The third one is from my professor in my home country, which is probably generic.

Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: I passed the PhD comprehensive exam. I just start working with a famous Professor at MIT on Machine Learning for Causal Inference recently (but the relationship is still at early stages, so I didn't ask for a LOR). I took many Math courses as a non-degree seeking student at Harvard and UIUC since my undergrad institution didn't provide many Math courses.

Majors: Mathematics & Computer Science
total GPA: 4.2/4.3
Type of Student: International Asian Male

GRE Revised General Test: Didn't take
GRE Subject Test in Mathematics: 95%. I hate the test, it is so expensive, and the quality is worse than the final exam of Calculus I.

  • ICPC World Finalist twice
  • Research Experience in Computer Science, have original results related to algorithms
  • International grandmaster in Codeforces
  • Emailed to some professors in the programs I applied, and some of them invited me to have a meeting
  • Due to double majoring, I have more than 55 courses relating to math & computer science, and more than 200 credits.
  • 4 recommendation letters. All four professors have known me well for more than a year, and I have confidence that the letters would not be generic.
Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter:
One of the 4 recommenders told me that there is no chance getting into Princeton, MIT, or Harvard without mathematical publications. So he did not send the letter to the three schools.

Applying to Where: (Color use here is welcome)
I only applied to math PhD programs, and all of them were submitted

big reach:
Harvard rejected 1/27
Princeton rejected 2/3
MIT rejected 2/21

reach/match:
Stanford admitted 2/3
UC Berkeley rejected 2/13
UCLA admitted 2/1
UW-Madison rejected 2/20
UT at Austin rejected 4/18
Brown rejected 2/9
Cornell rejected 4/14

Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Couple scholarships from high school as well as university and departmental scholarships. I've only gotten zeros on Putnam so I didn't put that down
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Tutored college algebra to calculus 2.
Math Courses Taken: Calculus 1-3, intro to advanced math (intro to proofs), linear algebra, abstract algebra, ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations, numerical analysis, intro to probability, combinatorics, graph theory,
(taken in fall) advanced calculus 1, intro to topology, complex analysis
(taking in spring) statistical inference, numerical methods
Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help: Female? I think my letter should be decent if not strong. Participated in couple AWM meetings. Volunteered for departmental math events. I studied very hard for the GRE math subject test, I did all the exercises in schaum's outline of calculus + differential equations and stewart's calculus at least twice. I'm glad it paid off.

Program Applying: Pure Math

Research Experience: I have partaken in two different research projects, one through a program at my university, in Quantum Information Theory, and another through a program without a home university, in Mathematical Logic. The first was about 5 months long and I presented at my university (poster session), and the second was about 6 months long and I presented at a seminar at an undergrad seminar at my university, and then later elsewhere at a big Math conference.
Awards/Honors/Recognitions: I plan to graduate with high distinction from the Math department.
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Not much officially (some tutoring, some computational work), but I made mention of some unofficial Math teaching.
Math Courses Taken: (Graduate-level) Topology, (Undergraduate-level) Complex Analysis, Real Analysis, Abstract Algebra 1 and 2, Independent study in Topology, Topology and Set Theory, Abstract Linear Algebra, Introductory CS course (Java), Calculus sequence.
Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help: One of my recommenders is a Dean for the college. Math Logic is a relatively small discipline, and one of my recommenders knows many of the people in it.
Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: I did attend a workshop at ND that I really enjoyed and was in my statement. Also, I had stuff uploaded to a couple of schools after the application deadline (which was acceptable, but might not be considered if done too late), but I suspect it would have had an impact on practically one or (more likely, I think,) none of them.

Applying to Where: (Color use here is welcome) (American-style dates)
At their respective PhD Mathematics Programs:

Reach:
Georgia Institute of Technology (GIT) / Emailed about status update and officially rejected on (3/29)
**University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) / Rejected on (3/17)
**Carnegie Mellon (CMU) / Rejected by email on (3/28)

Reach/Mid:
Rutgers University / I emailed the director and received a response on (3/31) suggesting that I was unlikely to be admitted. No official rejection as of (5/5). Email describing their Master's program received (4/20).
University of Maryland (UMD) / I emailed them and received a response on (3/30), was told that I'd hear back from them no later than April 15th. I received an email to check my decision and I was officially rejected on (4/12).

Mid/Match:
**University of Notre Dame / Officially rejected on (3/27) with email notification that a decision was ready for me to view in the portal.
Michigan State University (MSU) / Officially rejected by email (and found out I had been on the waitlist) on (4/28), the status was also updated.
Ohio State University (OSU) / I sent an email on 3/23 and received a response (3/24) indicating that I had been rejected. I was officially rejected by email on (3/30).
University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) / ACCEPTED INTO PROGRAM! on (3/4). I accepted the offer on (4/5). Admission is conditional upon sending my final transcript.
**City University of New York (CUNY) / I emailed a professor who I thought was the director, he was not, but told me that he wouldn't know until the end of the week after (3/30). I received an email update as of (5/1), but my decision was apparently available as of (4/17), I was rejected.

Safety:
Florida State at Gainesville / I emailed and received a response on (3/30) saying that I was unlikely to be admitted. The status is still "submitted" as of (5/5). I did notice that the transcript I uploaded is still "Under Review", meaning that it was never officially accepted in order to fufill that application requirement, so my application may not have ever been reviewed in full, I really don't know.
University of Nebraska - Lincoln / Apparnetly departamental review is still in progress as of (5/5). They say to contact the department directly for updates, but at this point I don't care too much to know. Maybe I will just to close it out.

Remarks: My indicated areas of interest were: #1 Mathematical Logic, #2 Topology, #3 Combinatorics. The school ranking was based on US News and QS World as well as some of my own estimation and that of another. My top preferred schools were #1 Notre Dame, #2 UIC, #3 CUNY or Rutgers.

My advice: (1) Do not use the GRE free score sends, especially for the Math GRE Subject Test! Wait to see your scores, and then decide whether to send them. Many schools, whether due to Covid or loss of interest in GRE results, don't seem to require it. (2) From what I've heard, having research papers seems much less important than having had research experience and knowing what you enjoyed about the experience, and maybe also any skills you learned that would be important for a Mathematician. (3) Honestly, regardless of whether you get into a top tier school or even your first choice, you're truly amazing. Maybe it would do us some good, especially when we might be worried about the future of our journeys, to take a moment to be in awe of our lives and the lives of others.

I received an invitation to open house from UPenn too. I don't know whether this means an unofficial offer because I saw on GradCafe that someone were invited to UPenn open house and waitlisted afterwards... So, is this open house in fact an interview?

Warwick Rejected Jan.5th
Did you interview and if so, how many days after the interview did you receive a rejection? I am still waiting for a decision.
I was not interviewed.

Notes
Definitely should have tried more on the mGRE. I also have no idea what is a reach match and safety at this point so kinda arbitrarily dumped them into buckets. Hope to get into mathematical modeling with ODEs or Networks.
Update: Lot less stress with the ASU admission - but also bombed Duke interview :(
Update 2: Sad about UW and their email reads like an acceptance smh. hopefully others will clutch up tho!
Update 3: Was stressing about Duke for a while but UMD OUTTA NOWHERE so thankful
Update 4: Rip Cornell and lowkey was expecting the Duke Waitlist sigh
Update 5: Surprised Purdue got back to me but very grateful, also surprised Utah gave emails on a weekend lol
Update 6: Lowkey thought i was looking good for BU since they interviewed me and even emailed me if I was still interested. Third waitlist...
Update 7: Penn State finally dropped any sign of life LOL
Update 8: Literally almost crying got into AIM program - completely out of left field :)
UPDATE 9: IF YOU ACCEPTED TO UCLA AND NOT PLANNING TO ATTEND PLEASE DECLINE UCLA IS MY NUMBER 1 CHOICE
Update 10: UCLA rejection hurts... well prob gonna commit to AIM now :D

What does mean? Is it an acceptance? I applied to UPenn as well but have heard nothing from them.
Sounds like it. Or at least a very good chance.
I received an invitation to open house from UPenn too. I don't know whether this means an unofficial offer because I saw on GradCafe that someone were invited to UPenn open house and waitlisted afterwards... So, is this open house in fact an interview?
They said it's part of the admissions process, but I think that maybe the person got unlucky. I guess I'll see if it serves as an interview.

Is the interview usually apart of Duke's admissions process? If I didn't receive something from duke today does that mean I've effectively been rejected?

According to previous records, everyone who was directly admitted ( without getting into a waitlist) had an interview. However interview is not necessary for a place in waitlist. Also it seems that interview invitations were not sent out in a single day, so you could wait for another couple of days.
