Number of Recommendation Letters?

Is it considered a slight red flag to send more than 3 letters of recommendation? I want to send 4 and most of my applications can accommodate this but I've heard some stories that some adcoms might think that you can't follow directions. Is this true or am I safe in sending 4 letters?

I don't think it will negatively impact your application (fingers crossed since I am also sending 4 letters)

If it will add something new, then send it. If it is like one of the others, then it has no added value.
