I took the general gre and got a quant score of 161 and I'm not sure if I should send this score to my schools (all PhDs with deadlines in jan). I've read online and found conflicting answers as to whether i should send this type of score and if it would hurt me. my gpa is <3.3 so im worried if my Q score will hurt me
Should I still send it?

For sure do not send it unless absolutely required

I had to send it to some mandatory places so do you think it might hurt me at those places? I'm just not sure how important the general gre is tbhcoolmathgames123 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 20, 2022 11:20 amFor sure do not send it unless absolutely required

Re: Gre score dilemma
The general GRE is useless. Some departments only require it because it is mandatory by the university graduate school. The Math department doesn't even look at it.

I did not know that. I just assumed everything was important lol. Is a score in the 160s note worthy to send? I feel like GREs are used for fellowships and other funding but I could be wrong :/FieldsMedalist wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 4:20 pmThe general GRE is useless. I am not sure about fellowships and other fundings, but usually the Math department recommends to the grad school people for fellowships. In any case, it is safe to say that the general GRE has no impact in the decision of acceptance/denial.
