Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
I have not received any updates from Rutgers or UMass Amherst, and it seems like they may have sent out their first round of offers already. Anyone else in the same situation? Idk if they have a second round before Apr 15.

I wonder if they'll have a 2nd wave of admits or if it is just a soft rejection

Congrats! Was it an email from someone who you names on your statement, or just an administrator/head of admissions person? Also was it pure or applied? (sorry for all the questions, just trying to figure out whether I'm silent rejected).pancakeboy38 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 8:44 pmI was contacted by someone in the department a few days ago. Pure. The main person I named in my statement is also in charge of admissions stuff, so I guess the answer is both.cosmo wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 9:41 pmCongrats! Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
Has anyone contacted the University of Rochester? The deadline was January 5th, and there has been absolutely no news since.
Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
UCSD just sent out rejections.
Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
Hello everyone, has anyone heard anything regarding the admissions decisions for pure math at Johns Hopkins University? On GradCafe, there is only one acceptance and a waitlist.
Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
I received an email from a Columbia prof to schedule a phone call. He said that they were almost done making decisions. Pure math

I also applied, haven't contacted them nor heard anything, but they tend to release decisions later in the month (24th last year if I remember).
Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
If anyone is still waiting to hear from Minnesota, I was told "Our committee is in the process of making final decisions on applications and we are hopeful that we will be able to notify all applicants of the status of their applications by the end of February"

Has anybody heard anything back from McGill, Toronto, Waterloo, or UBC (for Masters programs)?
Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
Rejected from Minnesota but unofficially accepted to their Master's program. They indicated that this acceptance does not come with funding. Withdrew.

Minnesota's waitlist is out.
Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
I still have heard nothing from them, neither acceptance, waitlist, or rejection. No email or portal update. Wonder what that means?
Also I'm interested to hear: Did anyone got *accepted* to Minnesota today?

Same. I'm thinking it's got to be a positive sign right? Else they would have rejected/waitlisted us

Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
Has anyone heard back from UMich for Math PhD? It seems like they sent out some interviews in late January (based on GradCafe) but crickets since then. Wondering if there will be another round of acceptances/rejections/interviews or if I am essentially waitlisted if I still haven't heard back.

Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
Nope, only one of my friends had got an interview call around late Jan but he withdrew. Nobody else have received anything from UMich. I think their first round of acceptance/ second round interviews are usually around mid to late Feb going by previous year decisions.leboy119 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 10:48 amHas anyone heard back from UMich for Math PhD? Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
Sorry to hear that you are waitlisted. That initial email you and I received just sounded like an unofficial acceptance.ThrowawayForApplied wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 11:26 amHey, I ended up getting waitlisted at USC with the following email:
Considering theres 40 people on the list, should I just consider this a soft-reject, in the sense I am unlikely to get off it? What experiences similar do you or other people you know in the past have with waitlists?Dear Mathematicians,
On behalf of the Mathematics Department at the University of Southern California, I am writing to let you know that you are on our admissions Waitlist for our Ph.D. program. Your application is top-rated by the graduate committee, and you are in our list of 40 students to whom we hope to make offers. Unfortunately, we cannot make more offers at this point, so you are on our waitlist. We realize this is not the news you hoped to receive, and it is not the news we hoped to convey! We received almost 400 applications to our graduate program and have only 16 spots we can fill. We know that we will be able to open more offers “down the line”, but I’ve not yet been informed of how many or when that will be. We absolutely would love to have you at USC, and we very much hope to get an offer to you prior to our April 15 deadline for acceptance.
I am happy to share a few details of our program now, so that you have more time to consider before our deadline. Our offer of admission includes a 5 year support package with 1 year of fellowship (no teaching) and 4 years of teaching assistantship (usually 12 hours or fewer per week). We cover tuition and give students a stipend of $40,000 per year. Students also have full health insurance and other benefits. Students who choose to remain on campus during the summer and take summer courses receive an additional summer stipend of about $4,000.
In July, our Mathematics Graduate Student Association will host a virtual “Where to live in LA” session to orient incoming students to the different LA neighborhoods, give tips for finding housing, and play matchmaker for those looking for roommates.
In August, we will host a 2-day orientation for incoming students in the week prior to the start of term. In this orientation, we’ll cover logistics of stipends and offer a crash course in teaching at USC. New students will also take a “Practicum in Teaching” course during your first semester to help adjust to life on the other side of the classroom. All incoming students have a one-on-one meeting with me, the Director of Graduate Studies, to help select first semester courses to align with their interests and meet the basic requirements of the program. Students will also have a temporary advisor in their field of interest to help navigate our more advanced course offering and begin their research program.
From the context of this email, I feel like the list of 40 applicants includes those who were admitted in the first round, but I might be wrong. If so, then the actual waitlist might not be that long. I believe chances are high for you to get off the waitlist! In any case, I don't think it's a soft rejection.
Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
Berkeley did send offers 1-2 weeks ago. I do not know whether there will be another round of offersdeleted

Has Umich AA sent out any rejections for pure math? I thought they have only sent out interview offers.ThrowawayForApplied wrote: ↑Sun Feb 18, 2024 5:48 amIt is fine, whatever happens happens. I haven't heard back from NYU, UCSB, Ann Arbor and so on as well, but It seems that they have been rejecting people already for weeks, do you think that means im on an unofficial waitlist for them as well? Considering many people get outright rejected, I want to view this as a positive
