Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
Having seen people shortlisted by UT Austin, I am wondering if anyone has an idea about how long their shortlist is? Did they admit everyone on the list today?

For those with offers from UVA who do not intend on accepting, I kindly ask if you can decline as soon as possible. This is my dream school! Please!

Has there been any Berkeley applied math here? Everyone I see with an accept here listed themselves as pure math, and didn’t see any applied math on gradcafe either

Anyone has any idea when UC Irvine is gonna send out decisions? The application deadline was Dec 1, 2023.

Rejected by Minnesota, unsure why it was staggered into this week. I'm a bit disappointed as I thought it was a good fit, but best of luck to all other applicants!
Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
Purdue sent out acceptances.

The acceptance was via email; the portal still says "awaiting decision".Conanthelibrarian wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 5:54 pmDid you receive a portal update, or an acceptance letter directly to your email?
Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
I did get an email from UCI saying ‘we are very excited about your application’ on Feb 6, though. Don’t know what that’s supposed to mean. UCI is one of my top choices, so, fingers crossed for both of us.

Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
Anyone know does having NOT received anything from UPenn at this point mean a silent rejection, since they are holding the open house in a couple days (according to a post on this forum)
Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
Wondering the same. For what it's worth, a different user told me the open house occurred this past weekend.maythemathbewithyou wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 2:49 amAnyone know does having NOT received anything from UPenn at this point mean a silent rejection, since they are holding the open house in a couple days (according to a post on this forum)
More generally, does anyone know if the process is generally slower this year or if I am not just personally not hearing back (or potentially both)?
Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
Has anyone heard back from CUNY and university of georgia?
Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
A lot of post here consist of 'unofficial admit'. Can someone clarify what does that mean?
Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
It means that the person has been contacted (email or phone call) by some faculty member (either their research interest or someone on the admissions committee) letting them know they had been accepted and that the official acceptance from the university with all the details (stipend amount, fellowships, etc.) will come later.
It's basically them saying you are accepted but they haven't completed all the formal administrative documentation yet.

I also haven't heard back, my guess is that either we're (a) rejections they haven't yet sent out or (b) waitlist candidates who may get offers if offer holders turn them down.gnayd wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 11:08 amWondering the same. Is Columbia sending out updates now? I saw somebody posting rejection on gradcafe and somebody says waitlisted on the main thread.

has anyone heard back from Utah? I saw a few people here and on gradcafe that have gotten acceptances (like max 5 people total?). it seems pretty quiet otherwise
Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
I got a notification to check my status yesterday -- but not sure whether all decisions have been released. A few people said on this thread that they were unofficially accepted a week or so ago, so I'm assuming hearing anything now would be a waitlist/reject.

Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
I’m interpreting these as waitlist. Asking them probably can’t help but I think it would be very petty of them to dock you for that.ThrowawayForApplied wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2024 4:21 pmHey, most of my applied-to universities haven't gotten back to me when I see rejections and acceptances being rolled out (UC Davis, UM College Park, etc) , and I was wondering what that means in practice. I haven't gotten any email rejection, or any in-portal rejection as well. What do you all think the status of applicants subject to this are, and should I email them to get a status update? I don't want to annoy them, as I feel that prodding might be detrimental to my chances.
Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
I emailed about my application status at UMD and they said I was rejected. They also mentioned 300 applicants for 15 spots.
I also emailed Michigan-Ann Arbor and they said they are still reviewing applications. They mentioned 700 applicants, 10% of which are interviewed and 5% of which get offers. They said most interview notifications, interviews, and offers will be made on a rolling basis from Feb 15 to March 15, and that they'll have a visit weekend in the second half of March, and that most rejection and waitlist notifications will be made in the second half of March.

Received a curious email from OSU stating that application review process has concluded. Even though I am not accepted in the first two rounds nor currently in the waitlist, the status of my application may still change. Is this a universal email intended for all applicants?donbradman wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 3:17 pmHas anybody heard anything about Ohio State's second round decisions?schakraborty091199 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 10:01 pmNotre Dame sent interview offers and Penn State sent out first round admissions. Anyone heard from Boston College? They had a 1/20 deadline so the wait is understandable, but apparently they've sent at least one waitlist out by the main thread
Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
I am on the waitlist for UMN. I was wondering the possibility of waitlist to acceptance. And did anyone know when UMN will send out their next round of admissions? Thanks in advance!!
Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
Has anyone NOT heard back from the AMSC program of UMD yet? Would it mean a silent rejection?
Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
Even I got a similar email. They asked me whether I was still interested or not. Safe to assume that it was intended for all the applicants.spernerfanboy wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2024 10:12 pmInteresting... Re: 2024 Sweat Thread
Did anyone get an email from Indiana asking you to submit GRE scores? I had read on their website that it was alright to not submit scores, so long as you had a valid excuse and submitted a document explaining why you did not submit them.
I had an okay Subject Test score (not sending would have been preferable) that I submitted to IU after receiving the email, but I have never taken the General Test. I am taking it Saturday morning with the hope of getting my score this week and sending it to IU.
Am I screwed? Or is getting this email just a technicality because the department policy is to submit GRE scores? I am hoping the latter, since I was not just outright rejected. I contacted them letting know the situation and my intent to submit scores.
Sorry for the long, anxious post! Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Last year the acceptance rate for Ann Arbor was 11% for about 700 applicants though. Are all the PhD programs slashing their intake this year? Someone else mentioned Cornell and Minnesota also reduced their intake because of funding issues due to late matriculationframe wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2024 5:59 pmI emailed about my application status at UMD and they said I was rejected. Cornell's (pure) math program did not admit new students this year. From their website: "Our Program is bigger than its typical steady-state size ... COVID-impact has lengthened the typical time-to-Ph.D."Conanthelibrarian wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2024 11:42 pmAre all the PhD programs slashing their intake this year? Other schools may be experiencing the same effect.

I haven’t heard from UCLA, I wonder what that means. Have they already sent out most of their acceptances?
