is there any chance penn isn't doing an open house this year? has anyone heard or not yet? ngl penn is not a school i expect to be competitive for, since i am very poorly matched to the research interests of their department, so i was wondering if others had heard and i'm just out of the loop because i wasn't picked.

I think Penn might just be taking longer to send out open house invitations this year. It looks like in the past invitations were sent out as late as January 19. And I wouldn't write yourself off just yet! Honestly, from where I'm sitting, the mathematics admissions process seems so random that just about anything can happen.

I was accepted for the Math MS at UIUC already. First I got an email/letter from the Math Department on January 11, then an email/link to Slate decision letter from the Graduate College on January 16.
I suspect my acceptance was earlier because I was nominated by the Department for one of the Graduate College's fellowships, which had a nominated deadline of January 11. I was not offered any departmental funding.
I'd guess that for applicants being considered for departmental funding, decisions take longer (mid-February, based on this post by the Director of Graduate Studies https://ymb.web.illinois.edu/2024/01/05 ... -timeline/).
PS I am not the person who put Berkeley in my SOP.

It’s not, I know at least two people who’ve gotten into the UIUC PhD program (the person who posted on GradCafe is not one of them). Sounds like they sent out some acceptances to the strongest applicants early.

I received an email containing the names of the faculty members I will be meeting with. It also says:

The interview will consists of a few general questions about your studies and your interests in Duke's program, you do not need to prepare anything for the interview.

I don't see why this would be the case. The applied math deadline was 9 December, while the pure math deadline was 1 January (more than 3 weeks later). As with many schools, Brown's applied math program appears to be run by a different department than its math program, so a priori, there should be no more correlation between decision dates for pure/applied math than for pure math and, say, physics. That said, as someone who applied to Brown, I'd love to be wrong and see a decision in my inbox tomorrow.

thanks for doing the research on that for me lol..i thought naively it was two committees under the same department, which is how it is done at my school and they coordinate the release of decisions. in either case, brown seems to be right around the last week of january, or first few days of february for the most part so hopefully soon!

SOPs are often skimmed documents. So I don't think it is that surprising that someone could mistakenly write the wrong school name and still get accepted (especially if that someone is a strong applicant).

Does anyone know when Georgia Tech CSE decisions usually go out? Information here is scarce: a 2017 post (Accepted 1/16), two 2022 posts (Rejected 4/13, Admitted 01/28) but from people who applied to Math, and a Jan 31st post (again, Math) from 2023 saying apps were still under review at that point. Am not familiar with gradcafe so any pointers on how to get more info there are welcome

Edit: figured out how to use gradcafe, but any anecdotes on when decisions have come out in the past still very much welcome

I wasn’t who posted and I haven’t heard anything either but last year northwestern sent out a round of rejections on the 25 and then on the 29th, but didn’t accept anyone until the 4th of February… so I guess not hearing anything yet is a good sign?

I emailed the guy I was interested in working with and he said that the final round of review will be conducted on Feb 6th, so if you haven't heard anything it could be a good sign.

I would love to think that, but I wouldn't assume so yet. The rejections seem to be trickling out at different times. Someone from my school got rejected like 15 minutes ago even. Fingers crossed for us both though!

I got an email from the Director of Graduate Studies at UIC today letting me know I was accepted. He said they are in the process of putting together formal offer letters.
