Good Math department for Harmonic analysis/PDE
Good Math department for Harmonic analysis/PDE
Hi guys, I am an international undergraduate and I am going to apply for a Math PhD program in the US for Fall 2024. My interest lie in Harmonic analysis or PDE. I am considering programs at John Hopkins, Georgia Tech, Ohio State and University of Washington. However, I am not really sure these programs have strong focuses or faculty specializing in these areas. Could anyone with experience in these institutions, or with knowledge of their Math PhD programs, advise me on whether these universities would be a good fit for my research interests? If there are other schools I should consider, please let me know. Also, I want to make it clear that I'm not considering competitive schools like Harvard, MIT, Princeton, etc but still have a solid math program. Tips on the application process that might specifically help an international student would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

You can consider Rutgers University as well. They have a pretty strong department for PDEs and admit quite a lot of international students each year.

Hi, Thank you for your response. I have a GPA approximately of 3.7, 8.0 IELTS, 1 year of undergraduate research experience. However, I have no publications. Do you think that I can get into Rutgers? Thank you.

It's not easy to give a clear-cut answer. There are many factors that play a role in the admission process. In my opinion, research publication is not necessary for admission excluding the top universities. Good luck!
