Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Can I ask what kind of email are you referring to? I didn't apply to USC but hope to get an idea of what types of emails to expect. Thanks!
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
21 are too many, probably you will get somewhere, but if you are waitlisted you should expect a decision by March or Apriliknownothing wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 3:12 pmI applied to 21tqft01 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 1:46 pmYes, I think you need at least 2 strong letters. How many programs did you applied to?iknownothing wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 1:32 pmI'm really sweating now. I have 4.0 GPA in both my undergraduate and master's degree, and both are top 20 schools. I did 10 grad-level classes during master's before application, and I had 6 during my undergrad. I applied to top 80 programs and got 0 acceptance or interview now, am I too ambitious? I have only one strong letter. Does one need at least two?

It was very casual and relaxing. They asked about your educational background, research interests, motivation, and future goals.MonkyDLuffy2001 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 5:38 pmFor those who have interviewed with Dartmouth, how was it? Was it technical or casual? Thanks!!
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Neither, it just changed. There’s an empty box on the portal now, presumably they’re going to put the status in that box but I don’t know. It just means that they will post decisions soon I’m guessing

Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Ahhhh, sorry for the confusion earlier. It's hard to describe - right above the "Your Profile" section, there is a really flat and wide blue box. That is the change I was referring to. (PS: does anyone know how to attach pictures here?)rejectionsonly wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 10:39 pmI can't see any empty box either...? Can you tell me where is it?
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Has anyone received anything from CAM@Cornell yet?
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Has anybody heard from UC Riverside? I saw an interview request in Grad Cafe
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
How in detail do interviewers typically go into research interests for US schools? I'm wondering if it's okay to say these areas are ones I'm really fascinating in without having a really in-depth knowledge of what exactly i want to do. Say I'm really interested in researching algebraic combinatorics. Is that all I need or should I go a lot further in depth here?

For these casual interviews, do they just want to test our English proficiency?Lllllllaaaaa wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 9:48 pmIt was very casual and relaxing. I don’t think schools require students to be experts in one area. They look for potential of success.ellis4 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 12:48 amHow in detail do interviewers typically go into research interests for US schools? Any news from EPFL? It's getting close to 8 weeks after Dec 15...
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Some official UCSD rejections out last night. (Source: I got one)
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Anyone who had PhD Cambridge Pure maths interview gone to PAO/ offer yet? If so how long after your interview was it?
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
My interviewer said they will give an answer within in 1-2 weeks. This should be notification from department, the official one will be later I guess.

Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
No idea. I’m not a great research fit (I’m mainly interested in low dimensional topology, and they don’t have many people in it at least not many who take grad students) so maybe I was an easier/earlier rejection than others.rejectionsonly wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 11:37 amSorry to hear that and thanks for your information. Do you think they have sent out all rejections? Mine still says "in review". Am I on waitlist or on my way to acceptance?

Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Interview is professor specific, mine was a very hard 2.5 hour interview where I had to present a paper in detail that was sent to me.

Man, the back to back rejections are brutal.
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Has anyone got email from clemson? just checked grad cafe and there was an acceptance
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
I am looking for some advice. I applied to UCI, the deadline was December 1, 2024. I haven't heard back from them yet (I guess no one has based on here and gradcafe). However, it is among my top two choices. Shall I contact the department about my application and let them know that they are among my top 2? I have heard that it is good to let schools know if they are your top choices. But is it too early?
Thanks for the answers in advance.
