2025 Sweat Thread
I'm creating this year's Sweat Thread since it seems that it should be posted much earlier...
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
OSU is one of the earliest to release decisions and that would be in early January, so I guess this isn't really late
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
I don't know. Last year it was 1/9 but probably not exactly the same this year

Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
I saw on GradCafe that someone got into WashU today.
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Does someone know how long it will take to send the first decisions? I haven't received any update, does that mean I'm not in the first list?MonkyDLuffy2001 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 6:51 pmI saw on GradCafe that someone got into WashU today.

Chicago came out on the 8th last year, so can probably expect to hear from them tomorrow.

Isn't it out on Fridays?finiteSimpleGroup wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 10:11 amChicago came out on the 8th last year, so can probably expect to hear from them tomorrow.

Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
It was Monday last year. Either way, they usually send out decisions in the first two full weeks of January, it seems.touful wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 10:46 amIsn't it out on Fridays?finiteSimpleGroup wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 10:11 amChicago came out on the 8th last year, so can probably expect to hear from them tomorrow.
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Hopefully they do come out tomorrow. But the decision release date could vary each year. Or (arguably worse), they might first send out acceptances and then send out rejections 9-10 days later.finiteSimpleGroup wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 10:11 amChicago came out on the 8th last year, so can probably expect to hear from them tomorrow.

Does anyone know which one(s) to expect next based on previous years' results?
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
How do you know; did you get one? If so, congrats! Did you have previous contact with a professor before you applied?

Yeah, checked this after I posted and saw that. Oh well.swrdhr38 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 7:25 pmThere are 3 people on GradCafe that got offers it seems. One of them said that their email says official offers come out next week.

Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Regarding Chicago, does everyone who is admitted receive an 'unofficial offer', and then a confirmed offer next week? Or are there students who do not receive an unofficial offer, but get a confirmed offer next week.
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
I'd also like to know this; 3 confirmations is not that many, but on the other hand the fraction of applicants who use gradcafe is also not that many. Last year they admitted around 40 students, so I have no idea32noinweinof wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 10:51 pmRegarding Chicago, does everyone who is admitted receive an 'unofficial offer', and then a confirmed offer next week? Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Honestly if everyone who receives an offer also gets an "unofficial offer", I don't see any reason not to simply send out only the official one.lukrau wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 11:05 pmI'd also like to know this; 3 confirmations is not that many, but on the other hand the fraction of applicants who use gradcafe is also not that many. Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
But what's the point of sending unofficial offers to only a small portion of the accepted people? Either way, it's confusing.nontrivialzeros wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 11:20 pmHonestly if everyone who receives an offer also gets an "unofficial offer", I don't see any reason not to simply send out only the official one.lukrau wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 11:05 pmI'd also like to know this; 3 confirmations is not that many, but on the other hand the fraction of applicants who use gradcafe is also not that many. According to GradCafe, rejection, acceptance, and waitlist emails all came out on Jan 8th for Fall 2024 intake. It makes this unofficial offer business even weirder. I realise I am probably cooked, but one can only hope.

Also, where did you get this statistic of UChicago accepting 40 students? Is there a grad list somewhere?lukrau wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 11:05 pmI'd also like to know this; 3 confirmations is not that many, but on the other hand the fraction of applicants who use gradcafe is also not that many. https://provost.uchicago.edu/initiative ... ogram-data
Tip: if you search "[school] phd admission statistics" most programs publish data like this and you can sort to select math specifically
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
In 2022 and 2023, offers and rejections were sent out separately (for Chicago).32noinweinof wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 11:42 pmAccording to GradCafe, rejection, acceptance, and waitlist emails all came out on Jan 8th for Fall 2024 intake. Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Also worth noting that last year they accepted a non-zero number of people off of the waitlist in April.lukrau wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 11:05 pmI'd also like to know this; 3 confirmations is not that many, but on the other hand the fraction of applicants who use gradcafe is also not that many. Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
I think unofficial acceptances are given in batches, so maybe they plan to send out all of the unofficial acceptances this week.

Ohio State just released theirs. check portal
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Does ‘in review’ on my status mean a rejection?
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Does someone know when will they organise a waiting list. I'm not sure whether I should send an email currently.

Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Uchicago sends out rejections all at once after the acceptances based off years past. UNC released interviews as well.
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
I asked UChicago about the status of my application and they said that there isn't any update and that decisions have not been made yet. I am not sure what to make of the unofficial offers then. Does someone have any update?

Does anyone know if not getting an interview simply means being rejected? Can it be the case that they are just interviewing some, not all of their top choices?AbelianCat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 1:26 pmUchicago sends out rejections all at once after the acceptances based off years past. Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Unofficial offers are unofficial. It's true that decisions haven't been made yet, but some people have been flagged to be admitted when decisions are made and have been told so by individual professors. IMO I don't think there's much coping to be done there, though I do think some people will get admitted off the waitlist or admitted without having received an unofficial offer.

UChicago doesn't do interviews. In fact, the majority of pure math PhD programs don't.MonkyDLuffy2001 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 2:23 pmDoes anyone know if not getting an interview simply means being rejected? Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Yes I understand that. But for those who interview (like UNC Chapel Hill), do they interview all the ones they are willing to accept? or is it possible that they might just interview some of them and directly send acceptance letter to the rest? In other words, is it possible to not get an interview but still get accepted to UNC Chapel Hill? Thanks!!!incoherent.sheaf wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 4:32 pmUChicago doesn't do interviews. Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Has anyone heard results from OSU today? My application portal is still showing in review.
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Anyone know when to expect results? Looking at last years sweat thread it looks like it’s coming up soon, but I also heard that results don’t come out till April.
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
This depends on a lot of factors, the ddl of the programs, recruitment quota, and maybe the level of universities, etc. Based on the information on the website of OSU, I believe that most universities have two rounds of admissions, if they hope to recruit about 10-20 people, and I think that they will release the first round about one month after the ddl. So we can expect a boom of admissions from forums from mid January to the end of February, and then we can expect to inquiry a waiting list. Just a guess, maybe there are different viewpoints.
